Default Denton/Krum Area Questions

Anyone got any opinions on a good place to look to move to in the Denton/Krum area? My family and I are having to move up to that area for several reasons. We are relocating from Leander, Texas. Which is very small, so we are used to small towns, and living out away from the heart of the town. I am a lil concerned about how people generally are in that area. I have 5 kids that I home school, which is not always well recieved in some areas. I have been told that living costs are much higher then where we are at the moment. About what are the averages in that area for utilities and housing payments and such? I am having trouble deciding if we should be looking around that area or if we should be looking on the other side of dallas? Any opinions would be very helpful.
