Default Relocating to Dallas

I'm currently in business school at the University of Maryland near Washington, DC. I'm planning to truly start my job search in a couple of weeks so that next year (I'm a first year MBA) I'm not scrambling looking for jobs. Geography is very important to me in terms of career placement. I'm from the Midwest and have spent most of my life dealing with cold weather. My hope is to end up somewhere warm that doesn't get much snow. Right now I'm looking at three places inparticular: Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas.

I know the least about Dallas so I'm looking for a bit of perspective on the city. It's culture, nightlife, job opportunities and overall impressions.

When I graduate I'll be 28 and basically at a point in my life where I'm looking to settle down, focus on career, and building roots somewhere. Overall I'm a pretty low key guy who hopes to end up somewhere that has the amenities of the big city, but isn't all about the city. I like being close to the city, but at the end of the day, I enjoy life somewhere between the suburbs and downtown, if that makes any sense.

Dallas seems like a good fit overall, and I know it's booming. I'm planning to visit sometime between January and July, I just haven't had time to actually plan a trip yet.

In the interim, what are your impressions of the city? What type of city is it (if that makes sense), and what should someone considering relocation know about the city and the metro area?

Dallas Uptown/OakLawn - think DuPont Circle lifestyle - gay, str8, whatever. Not many old buildings, plenty of off street parking and young, educated and balanced friendlies.

Google maps 75219, the area runs from downtown going north between 75 and Dallas North Tollway, up to Highland Park.

Also, the Greenville area, on the east side of 75, going north. I'm less familiar with that area. See Art Mann episode of St Pat's Day in Dallas.

That's all you'll need for a couple of years. See the Dallas Observer for what's happening.

Most of interesting inner-city Dallas is streetcar suburbs with some newer office buildings and apartments mixed in - also some newer TODs. Sounds like what you want - Knox-Henderson, Lower Greenville, Oak Lawn is a bit more dense. Uptown denser still. But easy to get around all of them. Cabs cost the price of a couple of drinks to most of the cool places.
