Default Moving to Lewisville area - need advice

I am following a company move to the northwest side of Dallas. I am looking for an upscale, professional community to lease in for a while. I am looking for a residential community on the water. My problem is I have no idea about that area of the metroplex and am not sure where to look or where to stay away from. Any suggestions?

While relocating to south Texas just 2 weeks ago we stopped in Lewisville in the city owned RV park right on Lake Lewisville. We stayed a couple extra days because I recently located a family member we all lost touch with and I wanted to visit.

He lived in Carrolton which I thought was a real pretty town. I think it was only like one exit south of Lewisville.

As for Lewisville it seemed run down a bit. There is an "old town" downtown main street but there are more boarded up stores then open for business stores. There is one wonderful cafe called the Mill St Cafe which is out of this world. Nice funky sidewalk cafe with great food. We did cruise some side streets to see how people live and saw nothing too nice. I believe it is an old working class town. Everyone we met were nice and almost wanting us to stop our travel and settle there.

The main attraction is the big lake. It's a very beautiful lake and locals from all around make the lake their playground. Fishing is awesome too. There is a massive high rated golf course if thats what your into.

I kinda liked Lewisville but Carrolton was much nicer. Sorry but I cant find anything nice to say about Dallas.

Good luck to ya

Lewisville is a very large city. Part of it is not great, but in TX, half of a city is usually not that great, and the other half is really nice.

Lewisville is a nice city with lots of shopping, places to eat, very nice people and schools are not great, but good. Some areas like Castle Hills have homes selling for 300K+ (cheap one). Some areas have homes selling for 100K+ (not so good). They have really nice apartment buildings by Vista Ridge area.

I used to live in Carrollton and I did really like. Be picky about your apartment building. In Carrollton, I recommend renting a house. There is a lot to do there as well. People are also very nice and both Lewisville and Carrollton are similar in the fact they are convenient for commuting. Both areas are huge so I would recommend you get a realtor if you plan to rent.

Carrollton has some really good schools. I would highly recommend staying either at Keller Springs or north of K.S.

Lewisville has a lot of good things, but I would recommend staying away from any apartments in the old downtown area which the original narrator refers to. Please do not think that all of Lewisville is bad. Parts of just about every city in Dallas area are better than some.

If you like water, may I also suggest renting in Grapevine? There is Lake Grapevine which is really nice as well. They have these great looking apartments just north of Grapevine Mills Mall called Verde Riverwalk. Lots of people have boats there. It's a gated apartment complex. I think they have lots of younger people there and I'm not sure how quiet it is (like any other apartment building). They have nice pools from the road!

Dallas area has a lot to offer. It took me about 8 months or so to adjust because it is so big

Good Luck. Please look around before making any decision.

Highland Village which is connected to Lewisville is on the lake. It has many nice homes. Not sure about for lease but a realator would be able to help there. Another area connected to Lewisville is Flowermound. Parts of Flowermound are very nice and on the lake. Again a realator would be able to help you with specifics. North Carrollton has many homes for lease that are in the quality areas such as Coyote Ridge or Castle Hills but you are not going to be on a lake.
