If you want to keep your boys safe and in good schools, Seagoville is NOT the place. Not saying that the other suburbs are any better, it is all up to us parents to keep informed and stay in touch with our kids.
The crime rate in Seagoville is not good. If there is a shooting of a young person the odds are that it happened there. The housing may be REALLY cheap but there are reasons why.
Where are you going to be commuting to? If you have the chance visit and stay close by your work location and see what options you have in each direction. There are so many better places to pick for a single parent than Seagoville.

I have to disagree with this statement above, I know this post is a little older, but seagoville is not that way at all!!!! I have lived here for over a year and lived near seagoville for almost 5 yrs and I haven't had ANY problems with ANY violance, crime or anything at all in our area... The elementry schools are wonderful and actually are one of the better schools in the DISD. Their High school I will admit is lacking in scores but other then that I have no problems. I have never not once not felt unsave here in this town. IMO if there is a shooting of a young person it's more to happen in dallas or balchsprings area not in this area. OR not that I have heard of. Seagoville crime
If you go to city-data.com, you will see Seagoville has a high crime rate, very low eductation rate for the city and a significant minority population.

My wife Haunani still owns a house in Seagoville. I do not recommend it. It is a rather closed and dreary suburban town. There are new developments going up, unfortunately they are surrounded by older and run down neighborhoods.
The schools are not the best and are at times dangerous. Infrastructure on areas close to 175 is excellent, it gets progressively worse as you move away from the highway. The South side of the town seems to be a little older with mixed nice and run down larger houses. There is a huge Walmart and the usual assorted strip shopping centers along the highway. Not really a pretty or inviting place. YMMV.

Quiet Country Setting
Well...everyone has their opinion and mine is this. I researched the Seagoville area for over a year before we decided to relocate and purchase a home here. Seagoville is the only rural area within the Dallas metro and one who moves here should know that, if offers a serene and quiet country setting that I am proud of, compared to the area that I was renting in the north dallas area. The subdivision that we live in is very family friendly and quiet, homes are very affordable and appealing. As far as crime I haven't witnessed any, but I'm sure there is some as with todays society you can't move away from it. Basically Seagoville is a good commute to downtown via I-175 which is not overly crowed as I-635 or other freeways in the area, and best of all the most affordable area in Dallas county. If you want or enjoy affordable country/suburban living Seagoville is your answer, just pick and choose your subdivision.

I think Seagoville is zoned to the DISD and Seagoville schools are supposed to be abysmal.
I urge you to look elsewhere.

I've pondered that same thing often. Someone will revive some thread that has not been posted on for over a year. Blows my mind especially if the OP has long since disappeared. Then you have the "drive by posters". They show up out of nowhere, make one or two posts and then disappear. Their posts tend to be flames or such. Oh well, sorry to get off topic but I guess it is just one of those weird online forum/board phenomenons that happens.
