'We enjoyed the weather. We kept wishing we could take some of the people that were complaining abou the heat and shrink them down and put them in our suitcase. We wanted to bring them back to Vegas/Laughlin and show them what HOT really is LOL "
But don't kid yourself, it does get hot here. Real hot, for a long time. 100+ for many days straight was very common last year. And the Sun, oh my the Sun. It stays in the sky till like 9pm at night. Loooooooooooooooonnnnnnggggg hot days.

I am originally from southern Louisiana, so I'm sure the humidity in Tyler will be no problem... plus I'm looking forward to not having to have a humidifier in my home like everyone does around here. Chicago is amazing and I'll miss this wonderful progressive city. But, the hubby is going to work in admin at TJC and I'm an artist, so my career is transportable somewhat.

Bring some rain gear, rain is predicted for the weekend. Bummer We've had such a BEAUTIFUL week and the weekend is supposed to see rain. Figures. The best bet to check status and forecasts of the weather is on wfaa.com (ch. 8 ABC locally here in Dallas). I LOVE their animated regional radar, I can look up the storms and see which way they are headed and if they will totally miss us or not.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I know that it gets hot, but here it gets over 125 degrees. I have seen plenty of summer days in the 130's. There is no relief either. It is burning hot that burns your skin as soon as you walk out the door. During August, it usually doesn't drop below 100 at night...very miserable! So for us here in the desert...Dallas area is great weather. After we're there for a couple of years and grow acustomed to the weather, I'm sure we'll start feeling the misery...It's all in what you get used to!

Seriously, it was like I told my loved ones I was heading off to Iraq to start a new life.
Also, in defense of Californians, it didn't help when I was looking for homes here with my wife having 1/2 the 20 something year old Realtors in the model homes tell mu/us that I'd be nuts to move from CA to TX.
In the end, perception is 9/10s of reality right. This is why I think the Real Estate downturn in CA is short lived.

We're experiencing the same thing. We visited SA last Sept. & looked into some apts. and the girl who showed us around was from CA, had lived there for 7yrs, hated it & told us moving was a huge mistake. I dismissed since i'm from TX, but it made my DH a little nervous.

Summers are brutal here....I don't want you to think otherwise. If you need mild summers, then try the PacWest or CA.

Summers aren't always brutal and nowhere near a PHX or Las Vegas summer. Honest. Last summer was unusually warm and there was a total of 43 days over 100 degrees..nowhere near 100+ days like one would experience in Arizona, Nevada and California. In fact, the most days over 100 ever in one summer was in 1980 with a total of 69. That was a truly awful summer where the extreme heat was throughout the central US and not just limited to Texas or the SW. The actual average amount of days over 100 for a DFW summer, according to the National Weather Service is 16.
Since 2000, there have been two summers I remember that only had ONE day over 100 the entire summer. A few summers have had ZERO 100 degree temps. It really can be hit or miss but it seems most of the US has experienced warmer summers over the last few years.
Here's a link showing over 100 degree temperature days each summer for the DFW area. It also shows when temps hit 90 and 95 and how early or late they have occurred each year.

Texas is not for Californians
Texas is just not for Californians. The two states are so different.
They need to fix California and stay there. They would be happier there.
