I live in McKinney too and went with MetLife home insurance. They gave me 25% discount for having a new house, plus 12% discount for a home alarm, plus another 15% discount with an auto policy with them. Plus, it is a HO-B policy, which will cover almost everything in my house. There are only 4 companies that carry HO-B's in Texas. I insured my house around $240,000 and have full HOB coverage and paying only $650/year.

Most companies offer 10 - 15% discounts for alarm systems. But in my case it would have saved me $160 and cost me $360 for monitoring.

I agree that the ongoing cost of monitoring out weighs the bennies.

But the peace of mind is nice for some. I'm still on the fence with regards to monitoring.
