Default Greenville or Commerce Texas

Can anyone give me information on either Greenville or Commerce Texas as a place to live?

I may be involved in a teaching program at Texas A & M Commerce.

Both are small, quiet cities - Commerce is much small and quieter, however. The university is right in the middle of Commerce and is really the heart of the community.....not much else there....but the university community is very warm and welcoming and there are people there from all over the country. There are not many apartments but usually a number of nice little homes for lease/rent for very reasonable prices. Greenville is a short commute, has a larger WalMart, a small mall, a movie theatre, more places to eat (the interstate goes thru it) and more apartment complexes but also a higher crime rate and higher rent. I think you'd find it easier to make friends and become part of the university family if you were living in Commerce......JMHO.

Best wishes on your decision - depending on what part of California you are now in, I'm sure you'll find this part of the country quite a change. It is rural, but less than an hour to Dallas and all it has to offer.

Greenville is the Big City you have to go to when you can't find ingredients in Commerce. :-)

I was an undergraduate in Commerce (back when it was ETSU) and I think it was a great place to live. It's quiet and different folks get along pretty well.

I worked in Greenville while I went to college in Commerce. ('04 Grad)

I lived in the dorms in Commerce. It is a small town, very quiet, and overall friendly. I enjoyed my time there. The public (and college) library and teeny movie theater were my favorite time killers. There is a small town square with some neat shopping.

Greenville is a sight bigger than Commerce, but has the same feel. There is a modest mall that always seems to be half empty and a nicer theater. They've gotten some nicer chain returants since I graduated. Puddin' Hill is a very addictive fudge shop.

It is far out enough to still feel rural without being too far from Dallas. I think it would be a nice place to bring up a family if not for the lack of jobs.

I would choose Greenville over Commerce simply because they have a Home Depot and a Lowes. A man has to have his priorities.

I would definitely go with Greenville over Commerce. It has more shopping and restaurants and you don't fell like you are out in the middle of nowhere like you do when you are in Commerce. IMO, Texas A&M Commerce is not a very nice college and the whole town kinda looks trashy, but I have only been there once. From Greenville, Commerce is only about 10-15 minutes. I have been to Greenville several times on I-30 and it just seems nicer than Commerce. And it's not too far from Dallas. It seems like it doesn't take that long at all. You can be in Rockwall in 20 minutes, and then you are really close to Dallas and can see the skyline. I love going over the Lake Ray Hubbard Bridge on I-30 heading towards Dallas, because all of a sudden you can see the skyline and the lake is really nice too. Anyways, I hope this helps!

Not a very nice college? Hmmm.........well, I went over Lake Ray Hubbard Bridge ONCE (like you went to Commerce ONCE)....it was a terrible experience - it was raining and dark and there were wrecks and traffic snarls and road rage and it was a frightening experience. So I don't like that bridge .....after all, I've been across it ONCE and that must be the way it is all the time - not a very nice bridge at all - IMO.

Ok wow...first of all,you need to calm down. There is no need to bight my head off for what I said. I have my own right to my opinion and that's what I thought about the Commerce area. I personally find all that area out there(Commerce, Sulphur Springs, Paris, etc.) very boring and I would be bored to tears if I had to live there. But that is juts my opinion and it doesn't pertain to you at all.

Now about the Lake Ray Hubbard bridge. You must have gone over it on a rainy stormy day in the middle of rush hour. Yes, traffic is bad in that area as Rockwall is growing and has a lot of people, so of course traffic is going to get bad in rush hour, which is common sense to everybody but you obviously. If you go over the bridge on a clear sunny day on the weekend when traffic is not as bad, you will see that it is very nice. Lake Ray Hubbard is a very nice lake and there is a nice new Hilton right there on the lake. Oh ya and if you think that bridge is bad in rush hour, then you obviously don't get out much. There is definitely other areas in and around Dallas that have just as bad or worse traffic.

So you can just get off of your high horse and keep your mean thoughts and words to yourself.

Hi,

I have been to the University and both it and Commerce are very nice.

Humm maybe it is "Green" ville as in green with envy over Commerce?

However I need a better feel for the whole area if I am to move there. Which has the best bet for housing and nice areas to shop, etc. Commerce may be a bit small, though I like it, and Greenville may be a better choice for an area to live.

I am curious about prices, crime, things to do on the week end, etc. I have only driven past Greenville on the Freeway.

DFW....I'm quite aware that Lake Ray Hubbard is a beautiful lake and that whole area is growing and is a very desirable place to live - I've been there many times (by choice - nobody dragged me there).......I was just being sarcastic (sorry you didn't 'get it') because I was amused that your whole opinion of the college and the town was based on your one trip thru there. There is always more beneath the surface of any place than one sees in one trip... that's why 'leonard' was asking about the towns from people who've had experience there. I've spent a lot of time in both Greenville and Commerce in many different circumstances over a number of years.......you're right - they are not as exciting as Dallas, but that was not the question. Isn't it great that we have a choice of where to live? Sorry for the sarcasm....I'll try to behave myself!
