No folks, this is not what I am basing my opinion on, when I say Transplants are what is wrong with this state. It is only one tiny, tiny, miniscule, example of stories that I have and that I have heard. Most Texans are to nice to tell these Transplants that they are not welcome here, but you would be amazed at the stories that a city research co. has heard about rude Outsiders living here in Texas. They don't care, they move here, they breed, they bring grandma and the dog over in their mini-vans they pollute our cities buy our land. I agree with one who wrote about the empty strip malls and how these smaller outskirt cities will no longer be the "IT" place to live. These out of towners don't have the same standards as us Texans do and therefore, builders are throwing up sub standard communities for all the sub standard people that are coming here and they are giddy about the 200,000. house that would cost 600,000 somewhere else. They live here without the pride and expectations of greatness that we have always had.

I'm sayin':
I think LA and other cities in CA would easily take the trophy from Dallas.

I don't think so. I was born and raised in San Diego (much less materialistic than Dallas) and have spent a great deal of time in LA. LA vs. Dallas? Maybe a wash. I mean, Dallas seems a lot more materialistic to me than the LA I know, but I wasn't hanging out with Hollywood & Beverly Hills types or anything.

No doubt that parts of LA are seriously materialistic, but my experience shows that we here in Dallas outdo them by a mile. Remember, the City Slogan for Dallas is LIVE LARGE AND THINK BIG. (personally, I think that is ridiculous, there was a time when we didn't have to advertise how we lived...it just was).

Ok, I like Texas and I lived in Milwaukee and commuted to Chicago, but that's just ignorant. Texas is not Mecca and we're not all saints. In fact, there is a lot of ignorance, prejudice, bad driving, and all out white-trashiness here. As just one example, your post was filled with grammatical errors.

I'm quite sure you think you're defending Texas, but it's really just embarrassing.

It's still really hard though. Every time I leave to come back here, it feels like there is a death in the family or something horrible.....this is the hardest thing I've ever done.

If everyone wants to relocate it's one thing, but when there are people in the family that don't....wow. I have to keep telling myself, 'nobody died, we can always go back if we want to'

I almost think my wife is praying that I get laid off or something and have to return home to San Diego.

This part is really making me question whether or not buying a home was the right thing to do.
Socketz, I feel that I have to correct you, I hope you don't mind, but when you ask people from Plano where they're from, get the whole story from them. It will either be Chicago, Minn., Wisconcin or somewhere else other than Texas. And why on earth would you ever want to leave beautiful San Diego to live in a Dallas Suburb?

Thank you Laura for helping me make my point. I'm terribly sorry for offending you with my grammatical errors.

Ah, the typical "I'm from Dallas and I have a chip on my shoulder" attitudes.
Many other locales have a higher transplant rate than Dallas. Younger families are having a hard time affording places like Cali or NY/NJ. They leave and head to the promised land of cheap housing and warm weather.
Most end up disappointed.
