odd driving habits
I've been back in D/FW for a month, now, commuting about 30 miles, daily, and I'm shocked to see some habits people had ten years ago still exist. If anything, they're worse than before. I'd think some of them would be self-correcting, but no.
My main gripe is the complete and utter lack of confidence/logic/intelligence when merging with traffic. This can be on to or off of a freeway. Actually, just pulling into traffic from a parking lot appears to be a challenge for many a person.
Last week, there was someone on the service road entrance ramp, this is EB 20 @ Cooper (for reference, it's a little odd), and while she was in front of me, and going about the same speed, at the last possible second, she, just happened to be a she, BTW, slammed on the brakes and went on to the shoulder.
????????????
My car is a 20 year old Mercedes S-class, probably the nicest beater-car I've had, yet. Far from small, but not exactly intimidating to an SUV pilot. Had I been in an F-350 with an 8" lift, I might could understand.
This morning, a guy is exiting WB 114 just west of the stadium, at Cistercian road. I'm yielding, watching him, I'm slowing for the 30 MPH school zone, anyway...he get distracted by something, I guess, because he slows down very suddenly, then comes to almost a complete stop ON THE EXIT RAMP.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was near-stopped on the service road, as I've come to not trust anyone's driving after being in OR and NV for the past several years, but this blew my mind. I want to say he appeared mad at me, but I think he might merely have been confused as to what to do with being granted the proper right-of-way.
We won't discuss lack of turn signal use, not knowing to look before changing lanes, or other oddities. I'll leave further observations to y'all.
I'm quite curious as to what others find frustrating/angering in N. Texas driving. The stuff which used to bug me to no end I find almost charmingly entertaining, after being elsewhere for a decade. I'd not realized how common tailgating is in the Metroplex. Texas, in general, actually.

My favorite is the one idiot absolutely DETERMINED to go the speed limit on 635 while everyone else is trying to get around him or her.

Indicators!?
Mine would be the choice of not using indicators and speeding in rain and snow. I never understand at speeds of 60-70, why drivers choose not to indicators. Many fatal accidents happen due to this. The simple fact of changing lanes at high speeds without notifying the drivers beside and behind is asking for trouble.
Strange how a few people drive in heavy rains. Their speed remains the same.

I'm not sure if it's Texan drivers, out-of-staters, or just drivers in general? Maybe it's just big city driving in general. I don't use my signals as often as I should but I always use them in busy traffic whether on or off the highway and during other than optimum weather conditions.

I get very angry when driving down 75 north fo Dallas. I am sure I scare many people in my lifted F150. But they deserve it and should get the hell out of the way. 55 in the left lane is not cool.

Yep, I can not stand the idiots that think to "merge" means to "slam on the brakes and stop". URGH!!!! All that does is pile everyone up beside each other and then NO ONE has a spot to merge into. If EVERYONE actually picked up a little speed then EVERYONE could safely MERGE without so much as a hiccup. But NOOOOOOOO, they have to come to a sudden stop the second they see "Merge". URGH!!!!

haha, Dave! Yeah, some people are oblivious to what's going on behind them. They don't look in their rearview or if they do, they don't care and won't move out of the way.

I've been living North Texas for 2 years now and I have observed so many rude, disrespectful and idiotic driving habits on the road! One particular example that pisses me off are drivers who'd cut you off then suddenly make a turn without using signals! That leaves you slamming on your brakes for you not to hit him from behind. Thay could've just slowed down and go behind you and wait until they reach their exit and make the turn. These people just dont use their brains, if they have any at all! What's so unnerving to me is that everyday I see more and more of those kind of drivers in North Texas and that only goes to show why there are so many accidents in Texas roads. Another funny thing is, almost every car here in the US are automatic and yet they still get into those accidents! I'd say 7 out of 10 drivers in Texas roads are so stupid all they know is to start the engine, step on the gas and brake when they feel the need to. Tsk tsk..no wonder...
