I understand that you are coming from CA and used to traffic (I have lived in SoCal), but you don't have to settle for that here. You have options and choices to avoid unnecessary traffic issues. I hope when George Bush/190 is finished the traffic congestion settles down in that area, but until then, it's really bad.

I've had friends that have taught at the school that I mentioned that serves that area. It is a HUGE school in terms of elementary schools for the Dallas area. They do have parents volunteering and overall it is a good school. It has its share of problems as well. The elem. school would not be the issue though. It would be the fact that the jr high and high school are over in Rockwall and ACROSS the lake. Thinking about late night school activities and all and teens driving - I would not be comfortable with that at all. Your also not really a part of the "community" that revolves around the school (high school) because your "across the lake" and live in a different city.
I really don't see the traffic in the Dalrock area getting better after 190 comes thru honestly. Since 190 is going to be down on the other side of Rowlett your still going to have all of the people that use I-30 to commute to work as well as those that MIGHT use 190 but live on that side of town or have to travel down/across Dalrock on their way home. The only congestion it is going to relieve is the "cut thru" traffic of people that are not doing any business in Rowlett nor live there. Then again you still have people that will go other ways to avoid paying a toll. The areas that WILL see a HUGE reduction in traffic after 190 goes thru to I-30 are: Hwy 66 @ Rowlett Rd, Rowlett Rd @ Miller, Firewheel Dr @ Centerville (in Garland), Pleasant Valley @ Firewheel Dr (Garland), Rowlett Rd @ Roan (Garland) - these are the intersections and streets that carry most of the traffic now that will be relieved w/ 190.

The school I was talking about is on the other side of the lake in Rockwall itself, but I can't remember the name of it. Big school. Muy grande. My friend's kid was in gifted and talented and the mom worked so was not looking to volunteer during the day. She was on the PTA board, though, until a mass walkout of board members due to in-fighting. Ah, the drama of elementary school. The mom was also totally surprised to see all the ESL kids at the school. She thought she had "escaped that" but in the end she realized it didn't matter.

I was completely with you on this post until you mentioned the "Prestige" issue about living in the Shores. This is one of the reasons that I chose to leave rockwall, because some people in areas like the Shores think they are better than everyone else. I've actually heard people say "The Shores" when asked where they live instead of just saying Rockwall. Like that was supposed to impress me. I moved to Mesquite from Rockwall a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier. Much more down-to-earth people overall. Now off my soap box.
To the OP: Rockwall is a nice area, but traffic can be bad getting to I-30 and then traveling on I-30 if you commute to Dallas. If there is a wreck on I-30 near the lake, you are stuck and there is no easy way around. If I were to choose between the dalrock side of the lake and the shores side, I would definately choose the shores side, but it has nothing to do with Prestige. It is just a little more quiet and quaint and that seems to be what you are looking for. Good luck!

Understood . I only used the "prestige" label since the OP used it in another thread when trying to decide between The Shores and another area of Rockwall.

And the only reason the prestige things was mentioned is not in reference to what we want, actually I don't want the whole keeping up with the jones atmosphere. We just have a real estate agent that has been steering us away from anywhere else in Rockwall except the shores because of the "prestige" of the shores. And I believe my comment on another post was something to the fact of if it wasn't for the prestige or ammenties like the golf course(which is wasted on us) is the shores really worth it over areas likfe lofland farms.

We live in the Dalrock area of Rowlett and have for 21 years. It is a nice area to live. I have never seen a snake in the area. We are within walking distance of Lake Point Medical Center. There are many family and children's doctors within walking distance.
We don't currently have children in the Rockwall ISD system but we know many residents that do. They feel RISD is much better than other surrounding school systems. Cullins Lake Pointe, the elementary school here in Rowlett is an excellent school. The principle is excellent. It may be the largest elementary school in RISD but it isn't over crowded. School buses serve the area and take older students to Rockwall.
Home in the Rowlett/Rockwall County area range from under 100K to over 350K. The most expensive are near I-30 to the South. Most of the homes near the lake are well kept.
There are many shopping opportunities within a few minutes of our home. The big Tom Thumb shopping center is within 5 minutes. The Albertson's grocery store along with several restaurants are also just a few minutes away. The new Super Target is located just 3 miles from our home.
Rockwall County property taxes are lower than those in Dallas County. It is more convenient getting drivers licenses, paying taxes and serving on jury duty from where we live compared with those in Dallas County.
The previous posters have exaggerated greatly about the traffic on Dalrock. We travel that road almost daily and I don't think it has ever taken us 15 minutes to reach I-30. We live near Hwy 66 about 5 miles North of I-30.
We do have higher property taxes in Rowlett but Rockwall is catching up rapidly. Rockwall has a volunteer fire department. That alone would cause me concern. The traffic in Rockwall is much worse than we have. Ridge Rd has been under construction for some time and will be under construction for another year at least. I know the Shores is a nice subdivision but you have to be well off to afford to live there.

Short answer.....no. There are neighborhoods on the other side of hwy 205, such as Caruth Lakes, that would give you the same quiet feel. There is also an older (but nice) neighborhood on the other side of Hwy 66 from the shores. Very hilly, with lots of trees.

As someone who used to live in the Dalrock area of Rowlett I can tell you where the rumors of it being a retirement village came from. In 1987-88, around the same time the hospital opened there were plans to build a large subdivision for seniors. I believe it was to be located on the Rockwall side near the lake and Lakepointe Hospital. I believe the first phase of the subdivision was completed, maybe not even that much. As far as I know it was just turned into a regular neighborhood.
Most of the traffic in the area is cause by construction, not congestion.
