There are still a few in Texas...none that I would consider convenient to the Dallas area though...

and for the poster saying Wal-mart, I believe they discontinued lay-a-way a year or two ago...

Not in the Dallas area.

As for lay-away, might try JCPenney, the catalog department that is since they don't carry the toys in the store. Sears might still do it as well.

Just got an e-mail from Sears announcing that they will, indeed, have layaway for the Christmas season...

I dont understand layaway. Why dont people just save money then go shopping for what they want with the money? Or just use a credit card and pay it later.

Well, with layaway, you can start shopping today, and get the stuff that you want. That hot gift may not be available when you have saved up all the money for it.

As far as credit cards go, there are a lot of people (myself included) that just don't want to use them any longer.

Well you have to be responsible with the credit cards or they will hurt you. Trust me I have learned the hard way.
