Hi we're moving to Texas and looking at the Dallas/ Ft Worth area (the outskirts to be exact). Can anyone tell which towns are best?
We're in our 30s (I'm a nurse), we have 2 daughters. One is a teenager and is big into rodeo and the other is 3 and disabled (and requires therapy). So we're looking for an area that is into rodeo or horses but that also has good schools.
I want to be no further than 1 hour from a children's hospital.
If ya'll could give me some ideas I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Will you be wanting to keep a horse on the property? What price range do you want to stay within? Do you know which hospital you will be working at?

Weatherford and the western side of Fort Worth towards Eagle Mountain Lake are big horse country. They are also close to Fort Worth which has Cook CHildren's Hospital.

Hi

Weatherford, Mineral Wells, Aledo, Springtown are very good locations. All close to Fort Worth. Weatherford is really growing, it is starting to be a big suburb for Fort Worth. All three cities have good Schools & well All Texas cities are good for Rodeos. Decatur & Glen Rose are really good schools as well. I know Glen Rose is huge with regional stuff. I remember when I went to School in Mineral Wells we went to Glen Rose for plays, choir & it is big with Band & other stuff. Aledo's school is great with band. It was in the State compatition. Really I would not know which one to pick they are all really good Schools. I don't really know about the Therapy but Texas is very good with Kids with Disabelities

Or towards Rockwall & Wylie. You have the Mesquite Rodeo close by and in Wylie there is Equest. Equest®- Therapeutic Horsemanship
Both areas still have a lot of acreage lots and horses are allowed.

You would be less than an hour from several hospitals and depending on how far out you go would depend on how long it takes to get to the nearest childrens hospital. Medical City Children's Hospital would be the closest. GREAT place - my youngest has her specialist there and has even been there for a week. GREAT STAFF! I'm about 10 minutes from Wylie and I can be at Medical City in 30 minutes.

Schools in Rockwall are great. Wylie's are pretty good as well. Both would give you a "hometown" feel. For yourself looking for a nursing position - OHMYGOSH! The clinics, freestanding medical centers and surgery centers and hospitals opening up right now in this area is INSANE! Rockwall is like "medical central" along Ralph Hall Pkwy off of Ridge Rd. The only thing missing is a HUGE regional hospital. You should not have any problems finding a job close to home. SERIOUSLY!

Mesquite, TX......hands down. Nationally recognized rodeo in town, hospitals and clinics in-town and within driving distance to other towns, good schools, great location.....you can get anywhere quick (at least 4 major highways intersect in Mesquite), Children's hospital would be less than 30 minutes away on light traffic days, 45 minutes with heavier traffic. Good luck.

Mesquite Rodeo is for professionals, not high school kids, so there will be nothing there for her daughter unless she just wants to be a spectator. There are also VERY few places left in the Mesquite City Limits where you can keep horses. It's pretty much a "normal" suburb now.

Within one hour from Childrens in Dallas:
Waxahachie and Red Oak
Fort Worth's Cooks:
Decatur, Weatherford, Aledo or Joshua.

All have really good schools and are rodeo-centric, horse-friendly towns on the outskirts.

I don't remember her mentioning that she owned horses or that her daughter wanted to get out there and rope a calf. She said that her daughter is "into" rodeo. I was "into" football in high school, but I didn't play on the high school football team. What better place than Mesquite for a kid to be able to go and watch professional rodeo events, and talk to the professional cowboys, cowgirls, and ranchers. There are also many ranchers and cowboys that live in this "normal" suburb.

True dat, but she did mention outskirts, got to admit Mesquite is not.

Happy Thanksgiving.
