Anybody know the history behind the popular town and avenue name McKinney? It happens to be my maiden name but as far as I know I have no relation to TX (other than the fact I'm moving there in June). -C

Hope this helps! http://www.mckinneytx.com/history.htm

Also, here's to an early welcome to TX...and by the way, once you move to the area, you can get your fill of great museums in the western half of the metro in Fort Worth also ( I read your other thread)! Check the links below.

Mckinney was settled in 1845 and serves as the seat of Collin County. The city and county were named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

That is right! I think it is interesting they named the county after his first name and Mckinney Tx after his last name. He is buried in Van Alstyne. We plan on going over there to see the site. Were history buffs here.

Anything else history related that the new comers to TX should know about. I am seriously trying to find out what TX has to offer in terms of arts, history. I have some information about the museusm but not anything related to history. I am history buff as well. Being in MA, it is tough to be thinking of leaving the state.

Are you still moving here in June? Texans are VERY proud of being Texans. so you want to come up to speed quickly on the 6 flags of TX and the fact that we were once an independent nation. Texas means "friendly", a spanish-indian translation. The 6th floor museum in Dallas has just had a major upgrade--this is the book depository building that Oswald used. and the courthouse in Dallas has also just reopened as a history museum.
