I'm about to move to Dallas and I'm looking at apartments this weekend. Does anybody commute from the George Bush Turnpike area (close to Plano) down to Downtown Dallas (right next to American Airlines Center)? I will be working right next to the AAC and the area my wife prefers to live in is North Dallas/Plano/Carrollton. I will start at 8am and leave 5pm or after.Any real life commute times would be appreciated! I also have heard varying opinions on the DN Tollway vs. 75.

I use to take the tollway from Plano (Custer and Parker) to Addison (Beltline exit) and it was a bear! On top of it all, I was paying to take that route! I found taking the back roads was a lot faster. For you I might suggest looking into the DART rail. There is a train that does let you off right there at the ACC. I've caught the DART at the northern station in Plano and got off at ACC for the circus. That's the way I would commute. No doubt about it!

That's been suggested to me, but from what I've seen online, DART only offers that AAC stop during special events. They won't run it on a daily basis until September 2009. We'll hopefully have bought a house by then because we only plan to be in an apartment for around 6 months.

We just moved to Frisco not too long ago and I commute to downtown Dallas everyday and it really is not that bad. I use the Dallas North Tollway and it takes me about 35-40 minutes. Since the tollway costs, many people have switched to 75 which already had a lot of traffic on it, so the tollway is not as bad and 75 is probably a little worse. From Plano, you can use 75 or the DNT. It just depends on traffic, sometimes 75 is faster and sometimes the DNT is faster. From 190 (George Bush Turnpike) and the DNT, it is 16 miles to the AAC. From 75 and 190 to the AAC is 17 miles. So it is about the same distance, but each route will have a different commute time.

I hate to tell you but today was not typical - school is out and many people didn't go to work. Maybe you should lower your expectations so that you don't pull out your hair next week.

13-15 minutes from Uptown to 635/Tollway, no matter when I leave and about 5 minutes longer going home during rush hour.

True. But if you always leave that time of the morning...it shouldn't be much longer...30-35 min maybe.

My commute varies depending on which office I am going to -
1) Coppell (MacArthur and Beltline) to Las Colinas - About 10 minutes.
2) Coppell (MacArthur and Beltline) to Downtown - 30-45 minutes.
