Opinions/Info on ARGYLE
Looking at relocating somewhere around the DFW AREA ( not working in DFW so no worries on commute) w/ family in Denton and finding the "country life" VERY APPEALING, what do you think of ARGYLE? Is there anything there like grocery stores, restaraunts, etc? How are the schools? Is it a good investment to purchase a home there? Denton is too big for the country/backroad lifestyle we really want, but I can see going into DENTON for major shopping, etc
The other place that jumped out to me was PONDER? Better or worse?

It has been WAY TOO long since I've been to either of those places. I know both are growing some but not near as much as other areas. I'd say both offer you the country lifestyle you want and an easy drive into Denton which is growing A LOT! If you don't have to commute into Dallas then that is great.

Argyle is becoming more and more upscale. There are quite a few neighborhoods with larger homes on some acreage. There are many trees in the area and the topography is very hilly in spots. It's also very popular with airline pilots as I know quite a few that live there since it's really an easy drive down to DFW Intl.
It's still very rural but there are major plans that will add a lot of retail and even more homes. It sits at the sw corner of the Denton city limits near areas that will be future huge master planned neighborhoods for the city of Denton. There's one neighborhood that is quite large and affordable in Argyle now. It straddles the Denton ISD and the Argyle ISD. It's called Country Lakes and the builders include Bowen Family Homes, Sandlin Custom Homes, and Graham Hart Home Builders.

Thanks for the info..Is there any basic shopping or restaraunts there.I guess one thing we dont want is in 5 years to be overcrowded w/ huge master planned communities incroaching all around us ,we would like to own 3-5 acres and be in an area that mostly supports that type of living. How are the schools?

I have also heard really nice things from dfwmom about Decatur. I just didnt realize that it was a good 30 minute drive from Denton...I am open to any other small rural communities in the area

What about Krum? It is a lil bit outside of Denton on 380, closer to Denton than Decatur and in Denton County. It is a very small town. REALLY easy commute to Denton. I just checked on realtor.com and there were several homes available on acreage that were very reasonable in price. Krum does have their own school system. Been YEARS since I went thru "downtown" Krum . Had to take my grandmother to the bank to sign some papers.

That sounds great too. I am just trying to weed out the definite "NO's" or find a reason to work towards a particular small town. How are the schools, taxes, roads?Anything that would make me think twice about it? Krum would be further from Dallas but closer to Denton?

momof2dfw I was looking at the info on this site and it came up with a large difference in housing showing KRUM at median price of 89k and Argyle at 227k , do you think there is really that large of a difference? Also the household incomes were almost double for Argyle at 91k v. Krum 52K, does that mean much???
I also just ran across this info:
http://www.kruminfo.com/
A million sq ft open air retail development going in very close to Krum called Rayzor Ranch Town Center slated for opening in 2009 , that seems like a great thing for that area, and possibly for a real estate boost....right?
