We take our son to Dr. Copenhaver at Dallas Presbyterian. He really helped us a lot after our 4 yr. old son was in the hospital with pneumonia last Christmas. He was very good with our son and listened to us. We had been to our pediatrician and one other pulmonologist before that for his asthma. We are much happier with his style and advice, and our son has had a much better year so far.

thanks ali002 for your reply. We are also not happy with our pediatricians plan of treatment so thinking of directly going over to a pulmonologist.

Dr. Richard Silver, he has an office at Medical City in Dallas and an office in Plano. I had severe asthma growing up and he turned my life around. I went from being "maxed out" on medication and still having frequent trips to the ER, to taking about a third of the medication and went to the hospital once under his care.

He's really good figuring out what type of asthma people have, what their triggers are, and creates a treatment plan specific for each case. He's always in the know of the latest and greatest treatments as well.

I hope they don't have him on prednisone long term. That medication can do wonders, but it has awful side effects.

Have you tried Singulair for your son? It worked well for me and does not contain steroids, and it treats both allergies and asthma.

Mary,
My son has been prescribed an inhaled corticosteroid and not prednisone.
Haven't tried singulair for my son but its great if it works coz it does not contain a steroid.i have asthma too and I do not know if it works for me coz I have always taken it with an inhaled corticosteroid.
