Job in Garland, Family in Burleson.... what areas to consider??
Hi everyone!
Well there may be a possibility of a job in Garland for DH ( ), and I have family that lives in Burleson.
Can you give me some areas to consider? Closer to Garland for the daily commute but any shortening of the drive to Burleson will be nice too.
We plan on renting for the first year or so until we decide where we REALLY want to live so it doesn't have to be our dream home... but there are the usual requirements like good schools (elementary and middle) and safe neighborhoods. I'm thinking our rental budget could be around $1500 or so, we'd need at least 3 bedrooms/preferably 4.
Thanks for any input - I've been burning up Yahoo maps trying to figure this out on my own!

As for the job in Garland. Look in Garland. Great schools, great shopping (Firewheel Town Center and surrounding area). If you find a specific area your interested in in Garland just ask. I live here. Know pretty much about all of the schools as well.

Garland is definitely on our short list, I was just wondering if there wasn't somewhere more south to put us closer to Burleson? Looking at Dallas on the map is confusing, it looks like a large spoke... like you can't just drive through it but need to go around it?

WHEW! You changed it from Bethesda to Burleson. Had me worried there for awhile. I was like, ain't no way your gonna be seein THAT side of the family often on weekends. LOL!!!
As for the family out in BURLESON...... now that side you CAN see on a weekend. You could easily go down there for the day from Garland. Actually being in Garland would put you in a better position than some areas that might be further west of Garland. You can bypass a LOT of the Dallas traffic and circle around the main part of the city fairly easy. While the trip might start you out traveling East your circumventing most of the MASS of Dallas and the traffic that goes with it. Even though I'm in the Firewheel area of Garland it depends on the time of day and what day of the week it is if I take 75 South into Dallas to hit 35 South to head towards Waco/Austin/San Antonio OR if I take 6-35 South around to 20 and cut across that way and totally miss all of the North Dallas and Downtown Dallas traffic. So you CAN drive THRU Dallas but you don't HAVE TO if it is easier to go around it.

I agree....you should check into Garland. It is a very nice suburb of Dallas with a lot of nice homes in your price range. The schools there are really good. It is very family-oriented and has a lot of shopping and restaurants.
Garland is 60 miles from Burleson, but thank about all the time your husband will save by actually living in the same city as he works in.
If for some reason that is too far for yall from Burleson, then check into areas like Mesquite, Lakewood, Lake Highlands, Grand Praire, etc. But then your husband will also have a longer commute. It just depends on whether you would rather be close to where your husband works or close to your family.

If you check out Mesquite, consider Sunnyvale as well. I would suggest making the loop around 635 to I20 towards Fort Worth.

Where in Garland is the job? If it's in the southern part of the city, Mesquite might be an option. Daily commute wouldn't be bad and it's not a horrid drive to Burleson from there.
