The only people who win when it comes to divorce are the attorneys. They will bleed you dry. My divorce cost over 80k. No one won, except both attorneys involved. If both parties can work things out amicably everyone will come out for the better in the long run.

Probably shopping for a cheap attorney. But you get what you pay for.

I don't know why more people don't go pro se for divorces. I did. Saved a bloody fortune.

It's because divorce can get ugly and people can end up loosing custody of their children or their financial assets. If both parties still trust each other then resolving it themselves is undoubtedly the best option.

This works well if you haven't been married for that long and don't have kids. Alternatively, if both parties agree to everything, it works well.

But with many divorces, you are dealing with custody battles, child support, and emotions.

An amicable divorce is an affordable divorce. Most cases go to mediation, few end up in court.

People with children can, and do, divorce without lawyers.

My ex and I hashed everything out in private before the divorce was even filed. No lawyers or mediators were involved. We were both obviously very motivated to keep things civil, though there were some shouting matches and slammed-down phones along the way.

If you think you can end a six-year marriage without any emotion...eh...you're wrong!
