Question Moving from Dallas to Phoenix - Shared Moving

I am trying to move away from Dallas to Phoenix. I have one bed room full of stuff. I already posted an Ad on craigslist for selling my sofa and bed, which are the big items in my house. I am scared that if they don't get sold, I might need to leave the expensive sofa set and Mattress. Hiring a moving company is costing much too.

I heard that some moving companies move several families at a time and they do the moving for very less price like around $500 to $600. Can anybody tell me if that is true? If so how can i find such movers? Any advice would be a great help?

Thanks in advance.
Swapna

We used a company called Broadway Express when we moved here to DC form Dallas last month. I could not have been more pleased, they were fantastic. We hired crews to load and unload the truck, and the driver helped too. Everything got here in time and nothing got broke.

Thanks FarNorthDallas, rb4browns and for all your replies....

rb4browns, can you let me know how much they charged you for your stuff to move? I am looking for about $500. My Brother said he know some friend who moved from Central america to East and he just paid $500 for the movers. They move around 4 to 5 families at a time and so they take less. Do you know anybody like that. I asked my brother to ask that person but he lost his contact #. So i am unable to reach his. So i thought posting in forumwould help where good people like you guys help others in need. Pls let me know if you know any such movers.

They charge depending on how much space you need. We moved a 3 bdr apartment so we needed a fair amount of space.

There is a service available from "the" big online auction site (I don't think I can give their specific name) that can probably help you out. The service is a reverse auction where moving, trucking, and hauling companies try to outbid each other for the privilege of delivering your stuff. Big loads, small loads, boats, cars, etc. When trucks don't have a full load, they try to fill it up by hauling and delivering smaller loads that people have bought from the auction and need delivered. Across town or across country. The prices usually beat the pants off regular moving and delivery services.

Thanks a lot everybody who replied me for this post. I sold off everything in my house except the Leather Sofa Set, which i think will get sold off bfore i leave. So we are set to move to phoenix without any movers. We are taking everything in our SUV.

Also dixierambler, just for future reference, can you let me know how i can find such auctions online. I mean any hint would help. It would also help many others who are worrying about moving like me. Hope you would answer this question for me. Thanks a lot in advance.

Once again thanks everybody who replied. You all were a great help.
