Dallas Transplants...
Hey, quick question for all you transplants in the DFW area. Did you ever feel the sense of the "good ole' boy" attitude and not feel fully accepted in the community? I have heard of this happening in the South, but haven't heard much about it in Texas.. Any thoughts are appreciated.

We've been here 10 years now and have never felt it. There was a statistic published a couple years ago and something like 53% of the people in Dallas proper weren't even born in Texas.

IN the 15 months we lived in Dallas I don't think I even met a "good ole boy."

Either you are a good ole boy yourself or you weren't paying attention.
Go to any of the following: Ft Worth, McKinney, Mansfield, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, the Mid Cities, or any of the exurbs to see plenty of good ole boys.
To answer the original question, I don't think many would be outwardly hostile to transplants...then again I can't speak for all of them. However, they do not take too kindly to people from the north (Yankees) especially people from New Jersey or New York. Again, much of that might be kept to themselves but there are always those idiots who ruin it for everybody.

I'd definitely delete Fort Worth from your GOB list. While it contains some, just like Dallas, it's come a long way over the past few years welcoming non-GOBS and those who are a bit more diverse than the Texas stereotype...

The "good ole' boy" attitude is definitely here. Your imaginary preconceived ideas about how "they look" though are wrong. There is no "one" look to it but it is very much so here in Dallas.

I have lived in Dallas the majority of my life and I have no problem with "Yanks". But then, both of my parents moved here as adults. But I've never even heard of this and all of my friends were born and raised here. I think you find this more out in East Texas...

Could you define what a good ole boy attitude is? I've heard of it but don't know exactly how it's defined, I think each person might have their own definition of the term?

My definition of this: a system wherein those that are "in" the system be it on city council, mayor, city employees or any other major job are only accepting to those that are familiar to them OR have the same hobbies, college alum, native, etc. Anyone outside of this "box" will find it harder to break in and fit in, find a job, etc. This holds true for EVERY STATE in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. This attitude is not just found in "the South" or Texas but also exists in places in "the North" as well.
