Because you are living in the city, maybe that's why? Not even in NY city do you have to drive on the freeway if you live in the city. Although Dallas is a far cry from living in NY city. Dallas is not a city I want to live in, the natives do, which I can understand, since the further out you go, it gets more redneck, so maybe they feel like big city folk or something.

The problem, it's so spread out, just to do simple things you have to add in 30 - 60 minutes to any place you travel because you have to jump on the highway.

San Francisco would be nice, LA and NY city are the only cities I would consider living in, unfortunaly, Dallas is the only affordable one.

I like nature and I love to hike, bike my bike, I love skiing, river rafting and kayaking, I even play golf or attempt to and ride horses.

First of all, most of those activities you can't even do here and the ones you can are not even enjoyable and the water is polluted.

LA must have been horrible for you, because I know two people who live there and I envy them. They have really nice homes with beautiful scenery from almost every window from their home. They can go to the beach or the mountains. LA is famous for it's nightlife. Never gets too hot cold, it's perfect weather. Lets not forget about the shopping and resturants.

So whatever motivated you to move to Dallas was most likely financial and couldn't afford to live in LA anymore, because I am sure you aren't here for the food, nightlife weather and landscape.

I guess Dallas is nice if you like to eat. That really does sum it up. Thank you.
I left LA because I lost my job. My department was laid off.

I grew up in LA and I do miss it, but I also love it here. I came with an open mind and I love it here. I dont look back. Im here now and this is home. This is where I will settle down. I couldnt afford much in LA anyway. Only a fool grows an ulcer over something he cant control. I cant control housing prices in LA, so im not going to trip. By living here, I can afford a much better lifestyle and go visit when I want. My family left LA years ago.

Dallas doesnt have as much to do outdoors. No arguement there. I miss the mountains and I miss the desert. I wasnt much of a beachy person even though I grew up two miles from it so I dont really miss it.

If you think Dallas has an awful nightlife, then you are lazy. It has pretty much something for every taste. Lower Greenville is artsy and diverse, Uptown is snotty and rich, Knox-Henderson is like Lower Greenvile, the Bishop Arts district is artsy, Addison has an amazing collection of resturants, Deep Ellum if you like to go to raves or to go to shows, and Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs if youre gay.

I dont understand why you think thats boring. I never said it was LA. So Ill say it again, if you think Dallas has no nightlife YOURE LAZY!

Too bad you couldn't afford to stay in your home state. But it is fantasitic you're adjusting to achieving less to live better.

Yes I am laaaazy, zzzzzzzzz. My husband is a musican, been to all the clubs/night spots. As for culture, resturants etc... boring. Nothing special or stands out here that any other city doesn't have.

Thank you for the personal stab. I just lost all respect for you.

I never said you couldnt do alot of this stuff in other cities. So is every city boring except for NY and LA? Just because other places have it doesnt make it boring.

I dont look back and I make the best of where I am. If I said I was miserable wherever I go, I would be an unhappy person.

That remark was snide, judgmental and totally uncalled for.

Haven't read all of this but I've read enough. Dallas is on the plains...no changing topography. We'll never be in the mountains, never be by the ocean. While Dallas has plenty to do (and I'm not even including shopping or eating out), it's not a touristy city. When you think of places to go for vacation, I'm sure Dallas ranks in the middle of cities below all of the biggies of Vegas, Miami, NYC, Chicago, Boston and places like Orlando which is tourist central. It's a great place for day to day living, not a place to vacation. Sorry Convention and Visitors Bureau, it's just not.

BTW, I spend a fair amount of time in LA and Orange County and travel extensively in the area for business. I purposely stay by the Pacific to get my water fix. Other than the truly upscale areas by the water and in town, it's dirty, old and crowded. Most people there do not live the upscale life. Tiny stucco houses in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Torrance, Northridge, Sherman Oaks, etc...color me jealous.

Oh and if living somewhere just because it was inexpensive is the main criteria, people would be flocking to Detroit at this point. You probably have enough in your savings account to buy a house there. No lie! If you can telecommute, it would be perfect! Or they'd go to some random medium sized town. But there's more to it than that. As you can tell, I get annoyed because Dallas seems to get knocked more than most cities. Dallas isn't perfect but what place is???

I lost respect for you when you called me lazy, not once but twice in two different posts. So don't be dishing it out if you can't take it. cause and effect.

I am not miserable where ever I go. just Dallas!! Sorry I hated Dallas, if you love it, fantastic! Not everyone is going to feel the same way about it. I know many people who won't even set foot into Texas. Even I am not repulsed by Texas. A lot of people can't stand LA or NY. It's just the way it is, that's what makes the world go round. We're all different.

Surprised you like LA so much. It sprawls more than Dallas does, traffic is far worse, and you can't see the mountains most of the time so you might as well be on the plains. It's funny; having grown up in LA, East Coasters and San Franciscans would wing in and say the same old things about LA that you say about Dallas. (Like Woody Allen's famous quote about LA's only contribution to culture was the ability to turn right on red.) So it's like deja vu all over again.
