I attended two different high schools. One was a Blue Ribbon school and one was not. I got a better education from the school that was NOT a Blue Ribbon school.
The system isn't perfect.

Totally agree. And the reason I posted this was in reaction to a discussion on another thread where I wrote that you couldn't make a judgment on a school based on the fact it was Blue Ribbon or not. There are so many Blue Ribbon schools as to make the point moot and those who know some of these schools personally know that being Blue Ribbon doesn't mean much. Some of these schools are great, others just average.

and face it folks--some great schools are not that great for some kids--and some people are never happy with any school their children attend...
Blue Ribbon is one mark of a school that indicates excellence--but there are others---it is just that getting a "seal of approval" makes it easier to let someone else's standards give you sense of qualification and desireability

So true and I think some districts and the Dallas diocese see it as a marketing tool and are willing to take the time to fill out the paperwork and jump through the hoops to be considered. Schools have to apply. It's not like the govt considers ALL schools for the Blue Ribbon honor. It's like cat shows.
