I have lived in DFW for 25 yrs and truthfully I can tell you that Little Elm and The Colony both have that negative image attached to them. I'm not saying it is necessarily well-deserved, but I think it stems from when they were "way out there" and just beginning to be developed. Their appeal was cheap housing. Little Elm as I remember it was a scattering of shacks and trailers that was known for being a great place for criminals to hide out. The Colony was a place for people to buy new cheap homes that they couldn't afford elsewhere. Both towns have grown a lot since the early days and both have nice areas now, but the stigma lives on. Sorry, but that's just the honest truth. When you move to a new area you have no idea why some areas are more desirable than others unless you listen to the locals. Sometimes you really can't tell until you live there awhile and your kids come home from school with the wrong kind of friends. There are so many great places to live in DFW, why choose to buy where other people cringe and feel sorry for you when you tell them where you live? I apologize in advance for the brutal honesty...

Some of the areas of Little Elm are ok. But others not so much with all the foreclosures, trouble with teenagers, drugs and other things. I have an ex-girlfriend there. The teenagers were a real problem around here area. I did speak to a couple cops there when they came to her home in 2009 and they were telling me just some of the crap going on there.

I considered moving there and i'm glad I did not.....Just my opinion, i'm not bashing it, just saying
