Austin traffic is a LOT more congested. The highways in Austin are always crowded. Austin is "funky" whereas Dallas has more of a "cosmopolitan" feel to it. That is probably the best way to describe it.
hmm...I guess I am going to have to check out both locations, my husband visits both often, so I am going to send him with a camera next time...lol. One thing about austin, we have friends there, dallas, we dont know anyone...

If your into the "funky" areas you CAN find them in Dallas. Just not as prevelant here as it is there. You can also find the "cosmopolitan" areas of Austin but more out in the burbs of Austin and not in the downtown area.

Have you looked at both on Google Earth and Google Maps Street View? Might give you a better idea of what each are like minus the people . If your into being involved in church it won't take long for you to make friends in either location. You can always find the area churches websites and listen to the pastors sermons to get a decent idea of how they are while your still in California.

Hmm, you know how let's say the difference between somewhere in California like Orange County vs Berkley. Dallas being more on the OC while Austin being Berkley. Not saying that Dallas WILL remind you of OC or Austin of Berkley just how they are two different "vibes" but in the same state. Yes, there is a saying, "Keep Austin Weird" that you will see on t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.

Haha ya that is California for ya. We lived in LA for a little while for my job and I was shocked at the home prices! They are crazy. My house here in DFW now would cost 2-3 million in Cali! But we did love it out there while we were there!

I think that there is several areas you should check out in DFW.

Lakewood and Lake Highlands are the very close in areas to Downtown Dallas and more established and older. The homes in that area are very nice. The home are on larger lots as well. Very close to shopping and restaurants and about 30 minutes from DFW. Presistonwood is also a close in area that is ery nice.

Frisco, Lewisville, Plano, Grapevine, and Southlake(all suburbs) wold be very good aswell. They are all really nice, have a lot of shopping, and close to the airport.

I have a 2100 sq/ft house in Rhome on 5.4 acres. Our neighborhood is private, and very safe. Prior to moving in our home, we searched to see if there were any 911 calls made from our neighborhood, and the result was one call in the 6 years of it being established. The reason for that call was for a woman that passed away from natural causes in her home. I agree dallas is not the safest place, but the ftw side is one of the safest cities in the country. Our home is about 30-35 min. to Dallas, and about 15 minutes to Alliance area. Brand new outdoor mall is being built. JC Penny, Belk, Hobby Lobby, etc. Many of the stores are open. We are about 30 min. to any every mall in Fort Worth. There are a Private School about 15 min away. Although Northwest ISD is one of the Highest ranking and Highly sought after school districts in Texas! Another reason we chose this location. The starting pay for teachers is $43,000.00 a year. They definately recruit the Best. The elem. school is wonderful, and still has low ratios as to compare to the rest of the nation.

We have not yet listed the home. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 3 cg. The master bathroom is absolutely stunning! The kitchen has custom cabinets, granite, and stainless appliances. There is a 9 by 4 foot window in the living room looking out to beautiful country and trees. THe ceilings are 13 ft with tripple crown in the main living areas. With no realtor we are asking $295,000. The house was built in Feb. of 2007. There is also a back and front porch on the property. Perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in serene privacy. Let me know if your interested. Rhome is the perfect location with easy commutes to Ftw. relatively no congested traffic ever!
