I have searched for threads for job outlook in these areas but they seem a bit out of date and they don't compare these two cities. I finished my B.S. degree in urban planning/ art minor last year. I am open to most types of jobs: government related, urban planning, admin work, temping, art related (galleries, studios).... Anyway, I am just wondering if you would say Austin or Dallas has a better outlook for a recent college grad in their mid-twenties? I have been in Austin staying at my sisters for about two weeks at the market here seems tough. Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Austin's job market is much smaller and more competitive. You'll be competing with UT grads and "lifestyle relocatees" who are willing to be underemployed just to stay in town. Dallas (and Houston, for that matter) always tend to need more employees than they can get, so finding a good paying job will be much easier. So I'd say go to Dallas for work and build up your career, then when you've made your dough come back to Austin and by a nice house in the hills or by the lake.

Of course, that's not to say there aren't great opportunities here in Austin. If you are lucky enough to land one, you might want to stay put.
