US 75 traffic jams around McKinney - Is there always rush hour jams there??
I have driven to McKinney tons of times on North US 75. I have always noticed traffic slows down as soon at US 75 becomes 2 lanes (each way) in McKinney. Sometimes traffic comes to total stand still. I am talking about this happening during non rush hours even on weekends! I once tried to drive to McKinney during rush hour and US 75 came to a standstill in Allen. I ended up exiting and taking main road due the jam. Is US 75 almost always jammed up during rush hour around McKinney? What would say the travel time would be from PGBT to US 380 going North US 75 during rush House?
Main reason I have been checking about McKinney is because it has large amount of Newer Houses that quite cheap (around 150k). I work in Garland, which seems to have lack of new cheap houses compared to McKinney. I do like the City of McKinney much better than other areas (like Sasche, Wylie) that has a lot of Cheaper new houses. I would be nice to live there, but seem like actually getting to and from McKinney might be a BIG pain. Currently from my Apartment I easily get to work in 10 mins in best traffic to 20 min in worst possible traffic.

The commute would be long to Garland. Traffic is tight up here on 75. Today we were going to enter 75 traveling south --Eldorado to Bethany....we never got on 75 because of the traffic. I would look closer in to the area where you are working. Cheaper housing will not equal a high quality of life when you are never there.

They are going to start widening and working on the 75/380 area according to TXDOT. It will take about 2-3 years. So it will get worse before it gets better.

Heh, just great
Today I on US 75 at Richardson and the shutdown US 75 to 2 lanes!!! This slowed down traffic to a crawl for awhile. Luckily it was around 8 pm so there wasn't really rush hour traffic. Interestingly, I found it faster to take the major road instead of US 75/Highways during rush hour.

During rush hours, pretty much yes :)
I work in North Dallas and go up 75 Central every day to North Plano. It honestly is quicker than some of the side roads (Like Alma, Custer or Plano Road), because people around here like to sit through green lights.
Anyway, I sometimes go into McKinney after work for work issues. That area just north of Stacey slows down to a crawl and where the roads become two lanes, it gets really, really slow. I almost bought a house in Anna, until a co-worker insisted I drive up there. From work to Allen took maybe 20 minutes, and then it took me a good 30 more minutes to get through McKinney, simply because of the traffic.
The area around 75 and Eldorado is pretty much always bad and not going to get any better. With the construction they are looking at to make it wider, I would say that it is going to get even heavier. If you work in Garland, though, I might look East of 75, so that you can take (is it 68? LOL) or maybe Plano (turns into Highway 5), or Jupiter, up there. You could look at Princeton or Melissa as well.

The traffic is the reason I seldom suggest folks live in McKinney if they work in Dallas. It is horrible commute and you could get to the Oklahoma border quicker than you could get to Dallas. I was going to build in Allen when I had my house built but did a test drive to Downtown and it was horrible. Have you considered Rockwall.

In the mornings on NBC5 news when they do the traffic report with the "Clock your commute", most of the time it says between 30 and 35 minutes from 75/121 in McKinney to downtown Dallas. I usually see this between 6 and 6:30 a.m. I know and work with a lot of people from the areas along 75(McKinney, Allen, Plano, Richardson) as well, and they say if you leave by 6:30, the traffic on 75 is not that bad. It is after 7 when it gets bad.

They have begun in earnest the rebuild of the interchange at 121 and 75. There are times when the two lanes are diminished to one, so that really slows thing up.
I live in McKinney but go to Frisco, so it isn't too bad. Can't wait for 121 to be open from McKinney to Frisco. Coworkers that come the other direction from Lewisville and The Colony are amazed at how quick their commute to Frisco is now that 121 is opened all the way from 35 past Preston.
I don't know why it took TXDOT so long to begin the widening of 75 thru McKinney. Should have been done years ago.

I've been going through there to Lake Texoma since I was a very small child. The last few times were especially bad and this was not in rush hour traffic.

For the past several months, traffic has been especially horrible on 75, heading north toward McKinney at the end of the day... and heading south toward Richardson in the morning... I've tried cutting over to Hwy 5 / Greenville when heading north, but now there's construction there too and traffic slows down.
