I have 3 outlets and a light switch in my home that have lost power. They are on either side of the same wall. How long might it take to back track the problem? Also, what might I expect to pay for the job or as an hourly rate (in general)

You didn't say - did you check the breaker box?

Yep you would need to check the breaker box first and work from there. Check to see if the breaker has tripped. If it has not you can then check the box were the outlets are located. Also if the outlets are in the bathroom or kitchen you may want to check the GFI outlets. The one in the garage should be the first one you check.

I don't want to seem condescending, but do you know how to check for a tripped breaker or blown fuse? Do you know what a GFI outlet is? It sounds like this is what the problem is. If you don't know what a breaker or GFI is, then ask a friend or neighbor to show you.
