Garland -- am I crazy?
Potential move to the Dallas area. DH's job would be downtown, and proximity to the DART rail would be great.
I guess eveyone else seems to think so too because Plano is darned expensive. I started looking at homes in Garland and I'm tempted because we could get sooo much more house for the $. But -- and I mean this respectfully -- Garland seemed to be (and still is by many) considered to not as desireable as the other northeren burbs.
We're empty nesters and so schools are not as important, except for their resale factor (which likely won't be a problem, either. We're staying put after this move.)
The Firewheel area seems nice -- can anyone give me zip codes of this and other other "nice" parts of Garland?
thanks for advice and suggestions.

There is both a Dart Transit center and Rail station in Garland. The area you want to concentrate your search in would be the North Garland area. I don't know the zips but there are some very nice homes in this area of Garland.

Although the Eastern Hills neighborhood is also nice. Lots of residents who've lived there for years. Old Garland families. 75043

Garland is cheap real estate but lots of criminal enterprises-
If you have children and can afford better housing go north of Garland and away from crime - police do not pursue criminals and crime rate reported are not accurate of the danger this area presents-

If people in the northern suburbs think you are crazy consider that a compliment. You are the sane one! Garland has some very nice areas and DART rail to downtown. You could also look in Lake Highlands and parts of East Dallas and Lakewood for that price -- 75238, 75243, 75214, 75206.
Ridgewood Park -- Dallas, Texas might be a good place to look - it's in the middle of the Dallas areas I mentioned.

I really liked the area of Jupiter / Arapaho. My exhusband still lives there but on the Richardson side. Older neighborhood, but quiet!!
