Dallas 75208
I live in Portland, Oregon formerly from NYC which I really didn't like. I am considering a move to Dallas, TX as the job market here in PDX is awful. The problem is the city is so incredibly progressive, hip and well planned that I'm afraid to leave. I can sell my house and clear about $100-150K. I am considering zip 75208- Bishop Arts or around Kidd Springs where I think I can buy for cash. I have not visited. When I google earth the area it looks mixed with a little bit of hokey renovations but many attractive properties, the main drags- Davis ect look rough. It this a safe area to consider for a gay man. Are there many mo's in the area? Are the people friendly (here in PDX they are incredibly nice and there is no class division to speak of)?. How about jobs? I'm in the insurance field. In Portland I make less than 1/4 of my salary 8 years ago in NYC because there are so many 20 somethings with MBA's.

OMG!...that area is PERFECT for a gay man.
Davis looks rough, but it really isn't - it's just old and there are a lot of machine shops located there with new businesses mixed in like - Sweet 200 (progressive hair salon), Bolsa (restaurant), Kavala (restaurant).
Everyone down there lives in harmony. It's mostly - gay, white, hispanic, families.

It is a very diverse area and a neighborhood in transition. It sounds perfect for what you are looking for. My only issue with north oak cliff would be the schools and since this is not a concern for you it would make a perfect fit. Like anyone else I would suggest to take a look around and come to your own conclusion.

Zip 75208 is in the heart of N. Oak Cliff. It is the second gayest 'hood in Dallas after the original gayborhood, Oak Lawn. You can find anything from a $100k fixer-upper to a $1.5m mansion in 75208. It's very diverse, politically liberal and has tons of character. All within a couple miles of downtown Dallas. See this website for info on the many 'hoods in 75208: The Neighborhoods of Oak Cliff

I could be wrong on this but I think there are mostly couples down there -- if that makes a difference. However, I would highly recommend that area plus the usual suspect Oak Lawn/Cedar Springs - also see Knox-Henderson and East Dallas/Lakewood (again more couples there).

You're right it is mostly couples, but also some of the more mature gay community live there. The going out every night/cruising crowd tends to live in the Cedar Springs area.

Yes, lots of couples both gay and straight in 75208. A considerable amount in 75211 as well including Ravinia Heights and North Cliff just to name a few.
It seems that Oak Cliff has a larger concentration of gay couples, while Oak Lawn has a larger concentration of gay singles.
