Does anyone here live in the Canyon Creek area of Richardson? (Dallas: hotel, house)

My husband and I are very interested in purchasing a home in this area. If anyone on this board lives in the area, I'd love to hear from you. Information on the pros/cons of the area plus info on access to shopping, downtown, light rail, and churches/schools/parks would be great.
We have 2 girls, ages 2 and 4 and are looking for a good preschool program for them. Any suggestions would be great.

I do not live in Canyon Creek but have known many people thru the years that have or do live in that area. It is a desireable area, always has been. I've been in some homes that have been updated that are just stunning w/ lots of charm and the creeks/parks were just a bonus. The area is very convienent to just about anything and everything in the metroplex w/o being right on top of it. Just to the north of Canyon Creek you have Hwy 190/George Bush Turnpike, to the east is 75-Central and a little south is 635-LBJ. Getting downtown from here will be pretty easy. The University of Texas at Dallas is just to the North of Canyon Creek off of Renner. There is a DART train station just east of 75 at Galatyn (north of Campbell) by the hotel. Then another DART train station and park & ride at 75 & 190.

Shopping:
Coit & 190 - Sam's, Walmart, Central Market along w/ a few other places tucked in there.
Coit & Renner - Tom Thumb, SuperTarget, LaMadeline, Rockfish, Home Depot, TONS of shops/restaurants on all 4 corners.
Campbell & 75 - Half Price Books and other shops/restaurants in the shopping centers on all sides. The DART rail station is just east of 75 at Galatyn by the hotel.
Renner & Alma - Is it a Tom Thumb? Can not remember which grocery store is there?
Campbell & Preston - Kroger along w/ many others that I can not keep up with.
Collin Creek Mall is just up 75 or Alma from there. You won't need to get on the highway to go there at all.
There is also a place called The Castle at Canyon Creek. Known for weddings and receptions and other events.

Schools: Some areas are in Plano schools. I've known many people to sell their house in Canyon Creek when another they liked became available in that area. One of the elem. schools is Aldridge and I've heard nothing but good things about it. If your in the Richardson ISD the schools in that area are still very good and well regarded.

Parks: PRARIE CREEK!!! OMY! Beautiful place for pictures w/ the waterfall. Shhh, don't tell anyone . Take Campbell west off of 75-Central and turn right on Prarie Creek and on down you will see the creek and probably photographers lined up to take pics w/ families, kids or brides.

Churches: First Baptist Richardson, First United Methodist Richardson, Richardson Heights Baptist all right there along w/ many others.

You mean Coit & Campbell not Coit & Renner, and yes, it's a Tom Thumb on Renner and Custer. A nice one, at that.

Otherwise I agree with everything mom said. And as i said in another thread, I would looooove to live in Canyon Creek someday!

You are correct. See, knowing when some of these streets did not exist is not always a good thing. Why I highly recommend that EVERYONE in the metroplex get an updated Mapsco. Yes, it is a very nice shopping center.

hahaha I'm sure you're right. I don't know where lots of things are but I lived on Coit and Frankford when I moved here in 2003 and now I'm in Richardson Heights so you've hit on the one area I do know well.

Driving down the hill (lookout?) in Canyon Creek reminded me a bit of San Diego. I think that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. Gorgeous neighborhood.

Mira Mesa ? Claremont ? I like Canyon Creek, but I'm not sure it reminds me of San Diego. definitely one of the greener areas in Dallas.

I have a friend that lives there and it's a BEAUTIFUL area.

We have some friends that bought a home there a few years ago. It's a great area. The home they bought was extremely dated and they didn't move in for 8 months after they bought it as they did extensive remodeling. Huge lots, and lots of big trees.
