I moved from California largely admiring the less regulation and taxes in this state. One area where Texas seems to have gotten carried away is with the annual emissions test. In CA its every 2 years. Its amazing the wasted productivity of forcing thousands of cars, many of them new to do this every year. The time wasted, money wasted must be massive.

It's a money maker for the state plain and simple.

A brand new car has a 2 year sticker on it when it is purchased. Only need to start doing the emissions inspections on them at the 2 year mark and then every year.

Sure beats what the state tried to do several years ago. They tried to have state run emisions inspections stations. That flubbed fast, thank goodness. I'm okay with the current system though. Being that we ARE trying to get our air cleaner. I can dig that

we used to have it every year in AK and then it got switched to every other year. But I think it always costs us over $100 bucks. But then every thing is more $$ here.

Of course it's excessive. Two things that politicians hate to let go of, existing laws, and revenue. Existing laws that collect revenue? yeah.

As some postors have said...it's a money maker. H*** with the people...screw them over.

Legalized Corruption Law is what the NEW name is.

Have noticed on C-D that many people are starting to feel this way...more so then in the past.

Many are getting angry and discontent.

Steve

Wow - if that's your biggest complaint - consider yourself blessed. I'd gladly pay $40/year instead of state income taxes of 9+%

Is the TX emissions test revenue generating? I thought the money paid the people who did it, do they kick back some of that to the state?

Its a stupid law. I lived in Florida most of my life and we never tested emissions there. The air was actually cleaner there too! I can understand testing a car that is 10 years old but anything that is relatively new shouldnt have to be tested. Its just so the state can make some extra $.

You alsohad very little industry in Florida. The fat is that studies have shown than 10% of teh vehcioles on teh raodway produce 90% of the poluttion. Why are these vehicles allowed on the raodway;politcs because they belong to poorer people. Use to be that someone with a low end income could get a exception on emissins test;not sure if this is still true.
