What are you looking for? Price range, activies, shopping access.......
We would be doing some slight "downsizing" from a home standpoint and definitely want either a single story or 1 1/2 story home, probably in the 2,700 -- 3,000 sq ft size. Based on the info I have seen on realtor.com we would probably be looking at something in the $275k -- $350k. Also, will want it to be in the 1-5 year old range. How are home prices holding in these areas? We would like to be in an area where we would not be the only "oldies" (we are 64 yrs of age) but have some other "young retired" folks. Are son & wife live in Allen so would like to be within 1 hour max. of them.

It all depends where you live in McKinney - the closer to 75, the more traffic. Stonebridge Ranch and other nearby neighborhoods have a mix or retirees and working families. The quality of life is high and hospitals, shopping and recreation are nearby. I live a few blocks off Eldorado and do not see traffic as a problem but I also do not go out at 5 pm on a Friday afternoon.

You could get that in Rowlett or East Garland nicely. And you wouldn't have to pay that high. For example I purchased a 3000 sqft home two story, with master on bottom floor for $165,000 and it was 4 years old.
I did however sell that house because of the HOA, but I purchased a home down the street with 1/2 acre 2500 sqft single story home with a shop for $159,000.
YOu might even want to look at Murphy or Lucus, Lucus is right next to Allen and is a sleepy town. Which I love!

Allen is about 30 mins north from both cities.

I would choose the older Rockwall neighborhoods. The older area between Hwy 205 & the lake just South of Hyw 66 is nice and seems to have lots of older residents. The newer neighborhoods will be full of kids as there are lots of young families moving out to Rockwall. Regardless, I would choose Rockwall over McKinney or Allen for a more quiet retirement lifestyle.
