Heath, Texas information?
Hi there! We are moving back to Dallas after living in North Carolina for a few years. Although we have always lived in the heart of each city (Austin, then Dallas, etc.) we are having trouble finding a good house for us in Dallas. (Have mainly looked in Lakewood (where we used to live) and Lake Highlands). Our house in Raleigh was big and on a a bigger lot than what we can get in Dallas and our neighborhood there was a swim/social/tennis community with tons of small town feel. I drove through Heath, TX the other day and loved the feel of it. Absolutely love views of the lake, and it appears we could get a much bigger house than in Dallas.
We have a 2 yr old and a baby on the way, husband works in Uptown and I stay at home. We are very social and are looking for a neighborhood with lots of family events and similar families. I doubt all of our Dallas friends would make the drive out to see us so we plan on basically "starting over "
I liked the small town feel of Heath but also that it is a stone's throw from the shopping/restaurants in Rockwall. Plus- it is fairly close to inlaws (who live in Lake Highlands).
Anyone have any opinions about Heath as a community/neighborhood? We would be in the 300-400K range and would prefer a community pool neighborhood. Also very impressed by the school ratings out there as compared to Dallas.
Thank you so much! I've searched the forums and keep finding stuff on Rockwall, but less on Heath.

Heath is a very nice place to live. It is however as you may have noticed very much a bedroom community. You would have to go to Rockwall for all your shopping/dining and entertainment needs.
Properties hold their values pretty well too. There are 13 homes priced between 300K & 400K in Heath as of today and one of them is older but waterfront. Buffalo Creek is the closest community that has the amenities you seek.
You may want to explore The Shores neighborhood of Rockwall. Many more homes there to choose from. The community if very active with swimming pool and everything else you mentioned you wanted.
Rockwall schools are awesome!

Do be advised that your husband will be spending up to an hour each way in the car to commute back and forth from Heath to Uptown Dallas. If you two are OK with this, then go for it.

I would suggest taking back roads such as 740 south to Forney highway 80 (about 15 minutes) and heading west to 635 (about 10 minutes) go south to 175 (5 minutes).
Loop 12 and 175 don't intersect. Do you mean to either place or do you have a landmark or address?

We temporarily live in the area -- kind of -- on the Rowlett side of the lake. We're actually planning to move to Lakewood if we can find a house that fits our needs because we want to be close to the city. That said, Heath is lovely and the only suburb we strongly considered because it has a laid back community-oriented vibe and some really nice homes in Buffalo Creek. But, my husband works in Dallas and the driving is the BIGGEST pain. You really really need to think about this. As the other poster said, if it doesn't matter much, then don't worry. My husband is a very relaxed and patient person and he's completely tired of commuting from the east suburbs into the city. We're all going to be pretty relieved when we move.
So just keep the driving in mind. Yes, you can take back roads, but that commute will never be under 40 minutes. Otherwise, the Rockwall/Heath area is nice and being by the lake is wonderful.

Yes, Loop 12 (S. Buckner Blvd.) and 175 (C.F. Hawn) DO intersect. Check Dallas Mapsco page 58-U.

You're absolutely right. I'm sorry. Loop 12 ends at 175. I don't venture out that way much.
Thank you,

It doesn't end there or anywhere else. Loop 12 is a complete secondary loop system that essentially was the first loop all the way around the city.
