Apartment search near VA Hospital in Dallas
Hello,
I will be relocating to Dallas from California. I am hoping that I won't have to bring my car to Dallas if I live along the blue rail or near work, which will be VA hospital in Dallas/South Oak Cliff. I rather live within walking distance, but I hear that the neighborhood is unsafe. Any suggestions on affordable and decently safe apartments near the VA Hospital or along the blue rail? I greatly appreciate any info on the subject matter. Thank you.

Depending on your budget you might try looking at some apartments in Downtown or in the Cedars. Both would have great access to the Blue line to get you to the VA.
More specifically check the West End Station apartments in Downtown. and check the Southside on Lamar in the Cedars neighborhood.

There are no decent apartments near the VA. Like CityConvo stated the Cedars area would be a good start. You could also live in the Village and take the rail to the VA. It is a straight shot and living in the Village would put you within walking distance of restaurants and grocery stores.

You're going to need a car. Sorry! The rail line will take you to and from work, but you are still going to need a car to get places that are not covered on the rail line, which is most of the metroplex.

I did part of my residency at The VA in South Oak Cliff...and people would shoot at cars in the south parking lot from the surrounding houses!...(if they had been shooting at people...they would have Killed someone....) Park as close to the building as possible...and DON'T DRIVE A "NICE CAR"

Not sure when you did your residency but the VA has been thru a major renovationl. It is pretty secure now.

You might want to check out some of the apartments in Lancaster. It is the closest suburb to the VA. Depending on your price range, you may be able to find a small duplex for rent as well. We don't have public transportation here, but the DART bus line does stop at Cedar Valley College, which is on the Lancaster/Dallas border.

There are some new apartments (or condos) called the Design district right off 35E. They will be brand new, but I don't know when they are opening.

More information....
It is called Ulta design district, not just design district. This may better help you with your search. From the way it looks, the new apts coming up there may be an extension of some already built in that area. They look really nice and are close to the DART line which takes you to VA. Price is OK as well (my opinion).
