Default Lake Highlands - crime

My family and I have been looking at some homes in Lake Highlands. We like the proximity to SMU (job), RISD and the general feel of the community. We've found a range of home prices, not all of which seems based "just" on home amenities/size/etc, which led us to wonder if some parts of town have other issues–such as higher crime (we hope not).
Thanks.

It might be related to which schools the house is zoned for. For instance, Skyview Elementary is not a school you want to send your kids to.

It's most definitely the schools. Make sure you have a realtor who knows the area really well, particularly the school situation.

Lake Highlands has some amazing neighborhoods (Moss Haven and Merriman Park are just two for example). There are always people walking, jogging, kids playing. Very friendly safe neighborhoods in my opinion.

I live in the area and if you have any more questions please feel free to PM me.
Good luck with your move.

Try to stay South of 635. I live in the Aikin Elem area and we hear gun fire most weekends from the aptmts.

Prices are definitely tied to elementary school attendance zones. Stay in Moss Haven, Merriman Park, and White Rock elementary attendance zones, and you can't go wrong. Lake Highlands and Wallace elementaries are also pretty good. Avoid Skyview, Northlake, and Aikins elementaries. Definitely stay south of 635, like Moma said. I live in Lake Highlands with my husband and three children, and we LOVE it!!
