Default Mira Lagos in Grand Prairie?

Hi All,

I'm considering buying a home in Grand Prairie. The area is called "Mira Lagos". Does anyone know if this is a good area to raise a family. I heard that the demographics in Grand Prairie is predominantly african american. Is this true?. Also, the house would be considered Mansfield ISD. Is Mansfield a good school district?. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

While I am not sure of the particular demographics of the Mira Lagos area, the city of Grand Prairie is predominately White (58.9%) according to the 2007 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. Hispanics, which can be of any race, are the largest minority group in the city at 40.2%. African Americans comprise 17.1% of the total population.

The general reputation of Mansfield ISD is positive but even in "good" school districts, there are usually individual schools that are better than others. Since I don't have any experience with the district, hopefully someone else with better knowledge of Mansfield ISD can provide you with the particulars.

I drove thru that area yesterday and they have some great homes. White's are the majority in that area for sure. I have heard Mansfield has nice schools but I have no first hand knowledge of this. It is certainly worth checking out on your own.

I moved into the neighborhood 3 years back, from the East Coast. It's definitely mixed rather than segregated as are some of the older North Dallas Communities with many folks from out-of-state, not bought into Dallas' past race boundaries. MISD has good new schools and facilities. The big draw here is that it's quiet, much less polluted than communities to the North and is surrounded by parks and the lakes. I've never seen any crime or trouble of any kind here. With the Rangers, Cowboys, DFW, Arlington and Cedar Hills Maalls close by it's very well situated, with 20, 360, 67 and 161 coming, does not have 24x7 traffic jams of the older and frankly pricier Northern Communities - great buys in the 80s and 90s booms but now with their best days behind them.
