hard eight BBQ in Coppell. They cook all the meat in a pit outside. You literally go outside to tell them what you want and they cut it off the bone (or wherever) for you.

Hard 8 is good but it's a shadow of real Central Texas pit barbecue.
Just like how I imagine the Cooper's in the FW Stockyards will be.

I grew up near Memphis so barbeque is not the reason I live in the Dallas area.

Show me someone who lives in the Dallas area due to the barbecue, and I'll show you a real nutjob. Or anywhere else - if you live there because of their barbecue you need to get a life.
That said, I've had both Memphis and Dallas barbecue. I used to travel to Memphis on business fairly often. I prefer the Dallas variety, but Memphis barbecue is also quite good.

went to Hard 8 for the second time and was less enthralled by the meat--
brisket was more like roast--very tender and fell to pieces but dry--had to add lots of sauce
there was not any of the rind or interleaven fat that I am used to from City Market and other central TX BBQ joints

I like Dickey's BBQ. I live in North East Dallas and its easy to get to and usually quick service and some variety of side dishes. My sister called me very excited that they had just opened a Dickey's in El Paso.

I used to eat at the old original Dickey's at Henderson and Central in Dallas a LOT back in the '80s since my office was within walking distance. I remember the beef rib plate special on Thursdays for $3.95, and the huge wheel of cheese where you could cut off as much as you wanted until the city heal dept. put a stop to it. It was quite good. The others are hit and miss; I think most are franchised locations. The new one on George Bush Turnpike in Garland is HORRIBLE. Gives Dickey's a bad name.

That one closed recently. They were not your normal Dickey's at all. They didn't have near the sides or anything. Slow service and bad as well.
The owner that opened that location doesn't have another one in the area at all. We deal w/ them and this one was the oddball out for sure.

Wow - didn't last long. I was there about a month ago and told myself "never again". Open just a few months at most.
