Just from a passing-through-the-airport traveler, DFW is FAR superior to Houston's airport. I chose my flights to transfer at DFW and refuse to use Houston. It's clean, bright, great food court areas, good intra-terminal transportation (I'm handicapped).

If you mean IAH and not Hobby you got to be kidding me. That airport has the worst layout I have seen.

That being said however at least IAH has more non stop international flights and is not affected by the Wright Amendment.

Are you joking? DFW is one of the best laid out airports in the country. IAH's layout wont allow it to be busier. DFW's layout allows it for almost infinite growth.

But I know youre just blowing smoke because you cant stand the idea that DFW might have one little thing thats better than Houston (airport layout).

Texas has the highest property taxes in the nation and no state income tax. Which is all well and good when things are going well. When they arent going well even if one family member becomes underemployed it can sink an entire family.

Also another reason property taxes are so high is that theres thousands of extremely rich people abusing the Ag Exemption designation running a herd of deer or exotic animals on their land and getting an Ag Exemption. Michael Dell for instance does exactly this on a $75,000,000 estate outside of Austin. He pays property taxes of an appraised $290,000 on the land because he has a herd of deer on it and somehow gets an Ag Exemption. Which is supposed to be only for small farmers whose entire income comes from farming.

So if you wonder why your property taxes go up 5% per year without fail its that socialism that Texans love to talk about. Except this time the money is coming out of your pocket so a billionaire doesnt have to pay his fair share of tax.

Good: real estate prices
Bad: Humidity
Good: warm weather
Bad: geographically unappealing - very little natural beauty
Good: easy place to own a car as far as driving & parking

Oh, look, more good than bad.....I guess I'll stay here for a while

Good:
- Job opportunities
- Steady Real Estate Market
- Plentiful shopping, even for hard-to-find items.
- Many restaurants to choose from
- Three letters: BBQ
- Warm Spring and Fall months
- Friendly people

Bad:
- Property taxes, especially school levys. But I AM getting my money's worth.
- Police corruption. Seems like once a week or so there's always someone in a law enforcement position that's been suspended, fired or is otherwise under investigation for some crime.
- Geographically boring. Very little natural beauty. Yes, there are wildflowers for about two months out of the year. The rest of the time, not so much.
- Texas summers. Nothing like 105 and 60%+ humidity to make me wish I still lived in the PNW.
- Seasonal allergies. The juniper and ragweed here keep me miserable right up until summer hits (see line above).

Overall, I'd grade N. Texas a C+. It has some good points, but nothing really stands out as a must-have for us to stay here. Getting off work on Friday's, swinging by the store for a 6 pack of Mike's before diving into the pool at home does have it's advantages.

Jobs, Mostly friendly people, movie theater situation (everything from second run dollar theaters to $4.75 tickets for first run tix at Regal Keystone Park 16 from 4-6pm everyday to May 7's opening of Gold Class Cinemas in Fairview and everything in between like the Director's Lounge at the Inwood), cheap houses (especially newer huge cheap homes), FIOS in Northern burbs, no state income tax

Dislikes:
The way people drive here, use of cell phones while driving, texting while driving, no scenic beauty, no place to get a great cheesesteak, mexican food is different here and not as good as mexican food in other parts of the country, way too many burger joints and donut shops, not enough healthy places to eat (like Sweet Tomatoes), lack of ethnic diversity through more areas of the metro, the fact that freeways and tollways are lagging behind the population growth (Esp. US 75 and 635), weather
