I know a family who has been living in Seagoville and they are moving to Crandall just down the road a bit. Seagoville is Dallas public schools. Crandall is in Crandall ISD (school district). They are moving specifically to get out of Dallas ISD.

FND is very correct. Seagoville schools are BAD. The town is not exactly a classy place (main industry is a federal prison) and I personally wouldn't live there. Look at Crandall and Forney if you want more of a rural environment, or Mesquite or Duncanville for more suburban.

Seagoville has an estimated population of 13,850, a 28 percent increase since 2000.

Inquiries regarding the Seagoville are very rare on this forum. I was able to locate an older thread that dealt with Seagoville and includes a few responses from people living in the city.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/dalla...ggestions.html

Since I am not that familiar with the city, I have listed a few websites with more detailed information on Seagoville:
City-Data's profile of Seagoville, Texas
City of Seagoville, Texas
Seagoville Economic Development Corporation

There following communities are located near Seagoville. Depending on your personal preferences, you may want to look into some of these communities as well:
Balch Springs (pop. 23,250)
Combine (pop. 1,850)
Crandall (pop. 3,600)
DeSoto (pop. 48,700)
Ferris (pop. 2,400)
Forney (pop. 12,850)
Hutchins (pop. 3,050)
Lancaster (pop. 36,200)
Mesquite (pop. 137,850)
Sunnyvale (pop. 4,600)
Talty (pop. 1,600)
Terrell (pop. 15,500)
Wilmer (pop. 3,300)

Smaller towns like Forney, Sunnyvale, Talty, and Crandall and the larger suburban communities like DeSoto and Lancaster have all experienced rapid growth in recent years. Owing to its larger size, Mesquite has a wide variety of neighborhood and housing choices. You can run a search to find more information on all of the communities listed above.

Hope this helps!

I just telling my wife last night that I never hear anything about the cities of Balch Springs and Seagoville be it bad or good. I have not been in Seagoville in over 20 years and something tells me nothing has changed over the years. I would like at the South East portion of Mesquite, Crandall or Sunnyvale as nice places to live near Seagoville. Sunnyvale is nicest but it comes at a cost.

Lived in Seagoville years ago (On Shadywood Lane to be exact) and while some parts are not that bad, the town is rather dumpy. Some very nice people, but I would lean toward Crandell as well due to the schools mainly.

Basically, Seagoville, like Balch Springs, was essentially a rural community until not so many years ago, and the city fathers wanted to keep it that way. As a result, zoning laws were almost non-existent, and there were few deed restrictions. So a hodge-podge of almost anything and everything was built along the major thoroughfares, and people got to keep their chickens, goats, etc.. They have been slow to change, and many undesirable businesses were grandfathered.

There are lots of low-income neighborhoods in both cities and your neighbor's rooster might wake you up every morning. But lots of folks love it there and wouldn't have it any other way.

Sunnyvale is a very nice area with good K-8 schools. It's in the Mesquite area, not too far from Seagoville.

I've heard a lot of people say that Cedar Hill is up-and-coming, but I haven't experienced it myself.

For the msot part, most of the schools in the southern area of Dallas county are unexceptional, and several are downright terrible.

Cedar Hill is some distance from the Seagoville area.

Even though the OP did not mention schools, you can find good campuses in just about every district.

Yes, but to find them in DISD you will have to go quite a distance from Seagoville. And that wouldn't have been the case 3 years ago for WHISD--their campuses pretty much all were subpar.
