Hi everyone ,

Yesterday we talked with one of the Tipperary Inn's owners and she told us they are closing this saturday "due to the economy". We are really sad because we were there with our friends at least once a week, mainly for their nice tables outside where you can have a conversation without shouting -the patio is never too crowded-, etc. Besides, they have really good beers, good cocktails and nice food (not mexican nor fried yay! LOL ).

So I'm asking you for recommendations. Do you need another place with these characteristics? We'd really appreciate your input

Gingerman Pub in Uptown - great patio out back, large selection of beers, gets loud on weekends (live band Saturday nights)
The Old Monk on Henderson - great patio, large selection of beers, relatively quiet
Uptown Pub on McKinney & Lemmon - great patio, large selection of beers, gets loud on weekends
Londoner on Thomas in Uptown - great patio, large selection of beers
Dubliner - smaller patio but still nice, large selection of beers. Used to be jam packed every night and douchebag heaven but since the smoking ban went into effect all the suburbanites stopped coming down there. Now it's more regulars and locals.

The Old Monk has great food and is one of my faves - I used to live down the street and it's staggering distance. Vickery Park is not really a pub but may fill the bill - a little further down Henderson.

Haven't been to the Gingerman in a long time but used to love it.

You might also try Lakewood http://www.cockandbulldallas.com/

Trinity Hall near Mockingbird Station? It's packed, though. It has good selection of brew, a little more crowded though. acoustic sets only. The old Tipperary was badass before they renovated it though. It was cavernous (not partitioned like now) was like made of adobe or something like that bar on Mos Eisley in Star Wars, but with guys in kilts instead of a creature playing the pan flute with a butt on his head or whatever the hell that was.

I second the Old Monk. Another option down in State Thomas by the Londoner is the State and Allen Lounge.

If your up for treking across the river the Beckley Brewhouse is a great place to hang out in a laid back atmosphere with great food.

As for Trinity Hall, its ok and the pub quiz they do on Sunday nights is pretty cool, but the food is horrible in my opinion.

Thanks a lot for all the places. We'll definitely try them.

We don't really like c&b. We went there for months but got tired of all the crowd, the noise, the smoke and the absolute darkness even during the day. We just want some place with patio or outside tables Do you know if there are more places we should try near Lakewood? I love that neighbourhood!

Seems that the Old Monk is popular also!

And what about the smoking ban? You're not supposed to light a cigarette even outside now?

Thanks again for the help

Exactly what a pub should be.

LOL probably you're right. Well, let me re write it: "place with good beers food, and outside tables. If it's possible, not excessively crowded, but negotiable if the "vibe" is worth it"

EDIT: Found the Old Monk's website and it looks promising.

You can't smoke inside anymore -- you might also try Barcadia on Henderson - pretty cool (picnic tables outside) and fairly good food and but it's not really a pub. Capitol Pub up the street is a real pub (with lots of outdoor seating) but for some reason it doesn't really feel like a pub.

Lakewood Landing is not a pub but has the craic.

Dubliner on Greenville may be your best best if you don't like the others. Also try Stan's Blue Note up from there..East Dallas non-pretentious at its best.
