What if you have been sent to collections and they are demanding the balance to be paid in 180 days?

Default Trying to Make a Payment.... NTTA Won't Accept

I had received a collection letter from the NTTA SEVERAL months after the charge had accrued and am still trying to take care of it. I have been calling to make arrangements since March: I will make arrangements with a manager and then make a payment. Then the next month when I am supposed to make another payment per our agreement, another manager will tell me that there were no payment arrangements recorded therefore the arrangements do not exist. It has gotten so out of hand that I cannot afford it anymore and now they are threatening to take me to court. But I am trying to pay the balance, they just won’t accept anything but the balance in full even through they can see in the notes that I have been trying to take care of this for almost a year. I do not know what to do. I feel like I am trying to do the right thing, but I am do not have a job right now and am trying to find one. I have tried to make payments when I had the money and now I don’t. I have a family member who is going to try to help put some money towards it as well, but now when I call SW Credit, NTTA Collections; the call will not go through!!! I am at my wits end!

I have dealt these folks and will tell you this. What they really want is payment in full while dropping those insane fees. I owed 7k but they settled for $281. To my knowledge they will not discount the fees much if you don't pay them in full. You need to go to the physical office to settle with them.

Maybe it’s the thin air up there..

Anyway , Call call call. Its been said before but for the most part they will work with you. Even with the "thieves" among you. They will push for a toll tag if you dont have one but i think thats not a bad thing as most roads are going that way anyway. Just get one and be done with it.

But if you do have a tag and things happen. CALL THEM. If one person doesn't work with you, hang up, call back and speak with someone else. Their fees however, defy logic. Bank fees can defy logic too... but theirs take the cake.

Right, most non-payers are scamming NTTA. As I mentioned within the discussion around that posting short of ones car being stolen one is legally responsible for things like tolls.

Simply not always true. I know people who who owed tolls and have a toll tag. Even when the NTTA makes a mistake the responsibility falls on the owner. Common sense and NTTA should never be used in the same sentence.

I never said my claim was always true.

Honestly, I get a chuckle out of folks who struggle with NTTA. In my experience, I have and have had lots of TT accounts on lots of cars personal and business, every time they've hounded me I deserved it and I was able to fix the issue with a phone call. I've been to the NTTA office in Plano maybe twice total in 20 years.

This has been my experience as well.

NTTA changed a rule about 2 or 3 months ago that resulted in some older violations being due.

In Nov I got a bill for 3 tolls from NTTA, on a vehicle with a toll tag. I assumed these three were recent events otherwise why would I be hearing about them just then?

NTTA formerly had a rule that violations did not get billed until at least 4-5 toll violations had occurred. My violations were a year ago when apparently the toll tag reader didnt pick up my toll tag for some reason....

The reason for the issuance of old toll violations was a new rule put in place by NTTA...they decided to bill after more than 2 violations which triggered the three old ones in my case.

I no longer owned the violating car due to it being totaled last summer. I spoke to a very courteous NTTA employee who clarified the timing for me, no fees were added to this bill as it was the first time billed. But "random walk" events like this can trigger confusion and difficulty in speaking with a person.

No harm no foul but it took about 45 minutes out of a Saturday to resolve this confusion. Not a well planned change in rule with no notice to explain with the bill and not staffing up to handle the calls of confusion...otherwise my experience with them has been good as well.

I wish they would refund tolls when due to icy conditions or road repairs the trip takes much longer than normal...but bills still come in due for them so they want their money ...

NTTA's well known for bad practices, like not sending a bill until it turns into a violation with fees added. There's a new one I recently heard of that really takes the cake.

Person without tag drives on toll road. NTTA does the right thing and sends a bill on time without fees added. Driver does the right thing and sends payment on time. So far the story looks good.

NTTA sees that everything happened correctly, and then messes it up. They send the driver a refund check, mark the bill as unpaid, and then send a violation notice with extra fees added. These people want more power to suspend vehicle registrations and cause people problems when they can't even figure out how to send bills and accept payments.
