Most of the spring-fed rivers that you can tube/swim in are located in Central Texas/Hill Country region. Nothing like plunging into a river that stays cold year round, when its 105 outside. Barton Springs Pool in Austin gets very crowded during the summer.

Yes.
The biggest moc I've ever seen was while jet skiing a really wide part of the Brazos River outside of Rio Vista, TX. They are as aggressive as can be, and, unlike most other snakes, are not afraid of humans. As an added bonus, they can hang from trees.

Hang from trees???? Holy s*it. Yikes! Thinking I may avoid all bodies of water now.....am phobically afraid of snakes and the fact that they are so aggressive is worrisome.

Didn't mean to scare you! If you're in a boat or in a pool, I wouldn't worry. It's not like they're all over the place. If you smell a musty scent near the banks, get the hell outta there.

Thanks for the tips....I think I'll stick to pools for swimming...I will still enjoy boating and other water activities on the lakes....but no swimming in them for me. Thank you!

If anyone was wanting to hit one of the waterparks this weekend I got a special offer email from Hawaiian Falls in Garland. We have rented a cabana before and it was nice to be able to have a quiet place to camp out while watching the kids and not be in the thick of things.
Reserve a Cabana This Weekend and Get Two Free Waterpark Tickets!

Renting a cabana sounds like the way to go!!! I'm going to look into that!
Re: water moccasins - are they that aggressive? I've walked past one at WestCave Preserve outside of Austin and it didn't lurch at us or anything.
And if y'all would like to see what Hippy Hollow is all about....I mean ALL...just google to find their site. It's obvious on the homepage.

It seems like a lot but has been WELL WORTH IT when we have done it. The freebies they are throwing in w/ that special sounds like it would be even better. I liked having the "quiet" area with your own space to chill at. I could see the kids and still have my "quiet".
We have a place down at Tawakoni and I've only seen 2 snakes all of these years (ohmy, already 18 years......wow). One was in the backwater before we filled it in and built a ramp. It was high grass & reeds and I was walking along w/ our dog, a Dalmatian, and he stopped and turned, pointed his nose and froze. He would not budge and I looked and saw what he was looking at: A SNAKE I stood guard w/ the dog while someone else got the shotgun and they aimed in the direction I pointed and got the thing, whew. Dang dog was always gun shy but not that time.
I think we should send ALL newcomers to Texas and the Austin area to Hippy Hollow and not tell them what it is.
