Anybody know if there is any vacant lots available inside the loop for 50k or less? I don't need much. I'd like to be within a 10 to 15 minute drive from my office in deep ellum, in a safe neighborhood, ethnic makeup isn't important as long as it isn't exclusively one race, would like to have good public school options but not a deal breaker. I'm not going to build a McMansion, so don't worry. Just trying to see whats out there.

Yeah, we don't really have a highway referred to "the Loop" in Dallas. Are you thinking of Houston?

But there are three highways in Dallas that make "loops" around the city. Loop 12 (which is the same as Northwest Highway or Walton Walker Blvd for part of the way) is the innermost, then I-635 (Lyndon Baines Johnson Freeway or "LBJ"), and then President George H.W. Bush Turnpike (PGBT or "George Bush). Belt Line Road also makes a complete loop around Dallas County, just outside the boundaries of 635.

635 but preferably loop 12...or what's left of it. the closer to downtown the better.

For less than 50k? I doubt it. You can probably do a teardown, but that's going to cost more than $50k.

Inside Loop 12 nothing will be 50K. The cheapest land you could find will be around west Dallas, around Harry Hines. With the opening of the Green Line prices around west Dallas are going up really fast. This area has been neglected for quite some time. But finally development is coming to it. So that's where I would advise you to look.

I think portorro had a very good suggestion, it looks like northwest Dallas is moving towards "gentrification". Some of the older neighborhoods around TJ are really increasing in value!

You can by a condo/loft or even a vacant building in deep ellum for pretty cheap right now. Might be a good investment if they ever get deep ellum going again. I lived in the Continental building (3311 Elm) for several years.

What do you mean by pretty cheap? Do you have any examples, this actually sounds pretty interesting to me.
