Cockroaches: a problem in Dallas?
I recently came from a thread on the Houston forum dealing with bug problems. I already know that city had a bug problem, but haven't heard what it's like up in North Texas. This is info I'd like for my relocation plans.
In Central Texas where I now reside, bugs are hardly a nuissance in the higher elevation areas (I've seen maybe 5 or 6 roaches in the house during the past 7 years).
They say you should never ask a question you don't really want to know the answer to but it's best I know. Ants I know how to keep away; crickets and spiders don't bother me that much; but them big flying monsters drive me crazy. So should I be concerned? and if so what exterminators or products can you personally suggest?

"Bumping" so maybe someone can help you. As for me, I see maybe 2 a year in my home but there was evidence of more being here before we moved in. We use a quarterly service, Eco-Safe, and I guess it works.

Appreciate the help. I've had the worst luck trying to get my questions answered on this site.

Uh no!!!!
There is a big problem with roaches in my opinion. The warm weather is ideal for them and most people either spray the perimeter of their homes or have a yearly contract with a pest control company. Oddly enough I had no problem with them in our 6 month rental (we were there during the winter) but just after we bought our home and once summer arrived they were the most terrifying gigantic roaches I had ever seen!! There is a thread for it if you search for 'roaches'
Once we started spraying, set out bait and got a contract with a pest control company we haven't seen a roach since. But here comes the summer . . .

Well, Houston is swampy with tall trees while Dallas is further north, with a higher elevation, drier, with less trees, so it can't be as bad as southeast Texas can it??? I really wanna know.

In the three years I've lived in Dallas I think I've seen two roaches total. I used to live in a building in downtown also and thats where I saw them. I think it depends on what building or home your planning on living in than it does the general area. But for the most part Dallas is not as bad as Florida for bugs. The warmer the climate the more bugs your going to have.
