Hi, I am moving from California to the Dallas area in July. I have no friends, single, am 30 and I have two dogs. I am too old for clubs so I like restaurants and bars where someone can get to know my name. I'd also like to meet friends. What is a good area/neighborhood that allows this and will be good for my dogs?

It depends on where you will be working. Addison sounds like a good fit for you based on what you have said though.

Check out Knox-Henderson if you like a walkable neighborhood with lots of bars and restaurants. It's adjacent to the Katy Trail as well.

Great...any specific areas in Knox-H, Addison and Uptown? Specifics like "live near this park, bar or live in this complex?"

Knox-Henderson is a street that changes names as you cross I-75 (aka Central Expressway). The west side, which borders the Katy Trail Friends of Katy Trail: and Highland Park (Beverly Hills without the palm trees), is called Knox. The east side is Henderson. Both sides have lots of restaurants and bars. On the Knox side I like all of the Lombardi Family restaurants Lombardi Family Concepts, especially Toulouse and La Cubanita. On the Henderson side, I love the Old Monk The Old Monk :: Irish Pub in Dallas, Texas :: Home and many others. If you're going to be leasing, you might like the Gables Knoxbridge on the Knox side of the 'hood
Gables, Gables.com - DallasÂ*TX Apartments for Rent, Dallas Luxury Apartments. There are lots of new apartments that have recently opened or are under construction on the Henderson side as well, but I don't know the names. There are lots of 1930's single family homes on the Henderson side too and sometimes you will find one available for lease. Whichever side of I-75, it's a great area that is totally walkable and just 1 mile north of Uptown and 2 miles north of Downtown. Good luck to you.

For Uptown, I recommend the West Village area: West Village

Thank you so much...I looked into it and I think this will be the area. I really like the Villas at Katy Trail. You have made this so much easier for me. :-)

if you have 2 dogs you might want to check out some of the areas around greenville or between greenville and knox-henderson where you could get a really charming little old house for not too much and still have easy access to lots of great restaurants and bars. if you'd rather not deal with the upkeep of a house tho it seems like you're on a good track to finding a place that fits
