Haven't seen any insects, snakes etc.. even they don't want to live in my area. It's a bit gothic here, like a Tim Burton movie.

I live in Allen, have only seen 1 scorpion - that was 8 years ago in our master bathroom. Wife shouted, "Hey, get that cricket!" - she freaked out a little when I told what it actually was. Have a family of coyotes living in/near our neighborhood now - they leave you alone if you leave them alone. I would keep small dogs and small children closeby though.

I would faint if I saw a scorpion. I can handle all kinds of insects, lizards, frogs, geckos, snakes. Doesn't bother me at all. Scorpions freak me out.

You forgot about the partridge in your bradford pear tree.

*********

I live about a 1/3 mile from a creek and right behind a newly developed neighborhood where the terrain was recently kicked up. We have our share of critters. Usually a few opossums, a raccoon (one got into my kettle's ash bin - lovely mess) and a couple of rat snakes. I've seen a few black widow and brown recluse spiders, but they are far outnumbered by the occasional normal insignificant harmless spiders.

However, it really doesn't feel any buggier/critter-ier here than any other suburban neighborhood I've lived in, and this is my 5th state. Unless you're in the boondock outskirts, DFW seem pretty critter average. I've had my share of spiders, snakes and nosy furry animals up north and it doesn't feel much different here.

Diatomacous earth keeps scorpions away! I've lived in Allen for 10 years and I've never seen a scorpion. I have seen water moccosins in the lakes and ponds. If you leave them alone they leave you alone. I've also saw one 5 ft rat snake in our back yard. The only snake I found in the house was some sort of baby brown snake in the laundry that was quickly taken out by my brother.

The most annoying pest in the yard is fire ants! They seem to pop up after every rainstorm. Their bites sting horribly.
