I will be graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology here in Atlanta soon with a Bachelors of Science in Management with concentration in Accounting/Finance and will be CPA eligible. I've lived in Georgia all my life (Savannah for 18 years, then in Atlanta for college), and I want to move out west and experience Texas. I've heard that Texas has higher median incomes, lower median costs of living, better education systems, less crime, etc. Are there a lot of accounting jobs available in Dallas?

husband of my best friend's daughter graduated from UT Arlington (state school not private) with BS in accounting (I think) and got his CPA pretty early--he has worked in accounting/finance for local meat company (restaurant provider) and for Sara Lee and for company called Mystic Tan--each time getting promotion...
his company was merged (bought out really) by another tanning products company in Ohio--who is moving everything up there so he is looking for work here in DFW area...
he got several hits when headhunter put his name out---
interviewed with several companies--got called back by two--one was Southland and one was smaller, private software/business applications company...
he took job with them...
some of the jobs he was interested in applying for he did not have experience in some areas --like SEC exposure--and he did have about 10 yrs experience...but still a lot of people in his age group are being laid off as well--so there is lot of competition ...
thought he did well with job market like it is but apparently accountants are one area where there is strong interest from employers...
have you done a Google/ Career Builder search or looked on line at any of the local companies...
check Texas Workforce commission as well
don't know what the accounting specific job sites would be...

You might talk with some of the accounting recruiting firms in the area. There are several and that's how I have gotten my jobs in accounting. Also check Craigslist and the Texas Workforce Commission.
