Default Where to eat - Irving

Help a tourist - Coming in this weekend for a week -
looking for mexican ( i hear it's REAL good) and BBQ (i guess you Texans call Brisket BBQ, i'll give it a try...), anything else I should sample...
I'll be staying right off the airport at the Towne Plan Suites, Las Colinas.
Would like to stay close...

any tips would be great...

No we have good BBQ, not just brisket. We like beef in our BBQ. However, Dallas isn't the best BBQ in Texas by a long shot. There are multiple threads about this.

How far are you looking to drive? Restaurant Row is relatively close to you, just on the other side of Texas Stadium at Loop 12 and I-35, and there are LOTS of options over there.

I don't know much about Irving in particular, but the most prominent area Tex-Mex chain (oldest and most established, not necessarily the best) is El Fenix. You could definitely find some smaller, family owned places a little south of you in Irving but it's going to be hit-or-miss with those.

As for BBQ, I really like Pappas BBQ in the Restaurant Row area, but it's pretty standard. Nothing remarkable.

If you want good BBQ, head down south about 4 hours to the town of Lockhart. They have 4 BBQ places there, which are all easily in the top ten in the state.
