anywhere along Live Oak, Bryan, Gaston, Lower Greenville (past Ross) or Lakewood. If price is a factor, try Casa Linda.
But if you realllly want to get away from the superficial scene, then Bishops Arts is the place. If you want a $14 martini, someone will have to mail it to you.

Lower Greenville / East Dallas-Lakewood - your headquarters should be Lakewood Landing, Pour House, Snuffers, Stan's Blue Note, Blue Goose and perhaps Ozona.
Knox-Henderson - stay on the Henderson side - Old Monk, Vickery Park, Barcadia
Southside/Cedars - Lee Harvey's
Bishop Arts/Davis - mosts places but The Quinn Bar would be good..you could also go up to Jack's Backyard off Fort Worth Ave - the NEW Lee Harvey's...
You can find non-pretentious places around Uptown and Downtown as well - it does take a bit of looking..The Gingerman can be pretty casual.

Ozona, Barcadia, definitely younger crowds.
Seriously even as a late 20-something I feel that I've matured out of those places.

Great, I appreciate the suggestions so far. I just have to look and see where these places even are. Is Bishop Arts close to transportation and are the places close to the city? I know Knox-Henderson is. Close to White Rock could be cool too, since I'd like having that access to nature. Also, I know someone who'll be living around there and being close to people I know would be nice.
Good to hear, though, that Uptown is more of a "trendy" place, so I know to avoid it. I'm 31, so places with older couples wouldn't really be fun, but 30s and early 40s would be cool.

UpTown has plenty of down to earth friendly people there from my experience. Its very walkable and close to nearly everything you need, give it a chance.

Has anyone been to Blue Collar Bar across from Barcadia? They have a new deck and this hilarious old Ford Econoline Van painted with the logo.
