I've not been in those areas. I have driven from Cedar Hill across Joe Pool Lake on Mansfield Rd / Lake Ridge Parkway, and my dad use to live not far east of 360 in 76063. Those areas are nice and relatively safe. As far as schools go, according to www.greatschools.net, Mansfield ISD (Mansfield HS, Timberview and Summit) rated better than either S Grand Prairie HS or Cedar Hill HS. But if you do look at Mansfield and work up in the Metroplex, you'll need to add an additional 10 - 20 minutes to your commute just to reach I-20.

Default 75052, 75050

I grew up and live in 75052 and own a business in 75050.

75052 is the growing end of Grand Prairie. 75050 is older, but just as nice. 75050 is older housing, but the houses are very nice. You can probably get a place for slightly less than the crazy prices going on in 75052, which is near the lake and has a lot of newer shopping.

Good Luck!

Any input on 75249? I'm moving to Dallas with 4 kids. Are the schools ok? Commute time to downtown?

Compared to San Jose, California those areas would be Utopian paradises. Please don't try to make them like California, remember there are reasons you are leaving.

75249 in the city of Dallas. Just about all of it of is zoned to the Duncanville Independent School District.

Three elementary schools (Grades PK-4) serve that area. Most of 75249 is zoned to Hyman Elementary. Small portions of the area are zoned to Action Elementary and Smith Elementary. The entire 75249 area is served by Daniel Intermediate (Grades 5-6), Kennemer Middle School (Grades 7-8), and Duncanville High School (Grades 9-12).

I honestly don't know that much about the school district, but all three elementary schools that serve that area were rated Exemplary (the highest rating possible) last year. The intermediate, middle, and high schools were each rated Academically Acceptable, which is the most common rating for secondary schools.
